TANG is not just a restaurant — it’s a symphony of style, flavor, and extravagance. Perched in a prime location at the V&A Waterfront, with sweeping views of the harbor and Table Mountain, this Asian luxury dining destination has redefined what it means to dine in Cape Town.
Low-hanging lanterns, textured walls, plush seating, and dramatic lighting all work together to wrap you in an environment that’s part opium den, part high-fashion runway. The open kitchen and sushi counter provide a dynamic energy, while the terrace seating offers the best of Cape Town’s natural beauty — perfect for sundowners as the yachts drift by and the city lights begin to shimmer.
It’s romantic, sexy, and vibrant — perfect for date nights, birthday dinners, power lunches, or a glamorous girls’ night out.
The service at TANG is as smooth as the sake they pour. From the hosts to the waitstaff to the sommeliers, everyone is immaculately dressed, well-versed in the menu, and exudes the kind of quiet confidence you expect from a world-class luxury establishment.
They strike a fine balance between being attentive and allowing space for your experience to unfold. Need pairing recommendations? They’ve got them. Celebrating something? Expect a touch of extra magic. Want a dish customized? They'll do what they can — all with grace and a smile.
TANG’s menu is a celebration of contemporary Asian cuisine, drawing from Japanese and Chinese influences with a touch of Southeast Asian fire. This is not traditional fare — it’s a reimagined, high-concept culinary affair that respects its roots while confidently redefining them.
Appetizers & Small Plates: Crispy Duck & Pancakes: Rich, decadent, and expertly balanced — one of their signature starters that feels both indulgent and perfectly portioned. Spicy Edamame with Truffle Salt: A simple dish, but packed with umami and attitude. Yellowtail Sashimi with Ponzu & Jalapeño: A delicate yet punchy burst of flavor, ideal for those who love their raw fish with a bit of heat and citrus.
Mains – Bold, Beautiful, and Impeccably Crafted: Miso Black Cod: Silky, sweet, and melts on your tongue. It’s the kind of dish that haunts you in the best way. Wagyu Ribeye or Beef Tataki: Succulent, seared to perfection, and plated like a work of art. Singapore-Style Lobster Noodles: Decadent, shareable, and made for seafood lovers who don’t mind getting a little messy in the lap of luxury.
Sushi & Robata Grilled Selections: The sushi is top-tier, with creative rolls and sashimi that are both fresh and beautifully presented. If you’re into grilled items, the Robata menu delivers everything from lamb chops to charred broccolini with a signature smoky flavor that lingers in the best way.
Yuzu Cheesecake and Coconut Crème Brûlée are light, refreshing finishes to an otherwise decadent meal. Or go big with their Chocolate Dome, cracked open tableside with a hot sauce pour — drama and deliciousness in one move.
TANG's bar game is strong, sophisticated, and stylish. Signature cocktails blend Asian ingredients with international finesse. Think yuzu, lemongrass, Thai basil, lychee, and jalapeño — all shaken and stirred to perfection.
Their wine list is expansive, featuring both top Cape vintages and international stars. And for something truly elevated, explore their sake selection or rare Japanese whiskies — curated for those with taste and a touch of daring.
The Crowd – Stylish, Cultured, and Ready to Celebrate
At TANG, you’ll dine alongside a glamorous mix: international visitors in designer resort wear, local creatives and entrepreneurs, couples celebrating anniversaries, and groups of friends sipping bubbles like it’s payday (because it is).
It’s high-end without being uptight, trendy without being pretentious. Come dressed to impress — TANG is where elegance is appreciated and luxury...
Read moreI absolutely LOVED my meal at Tang! My friend and I were due to take a sunset harbour cruise in around 1 hour and 20 mins from when we sat down, and so we knew it had to be a quick stopover, but boy, was it simply incredible!
My friend ordered a Beef Kung Po noodles main and I ordered 2 smaller dishes: the Chicken Gyoza and the Tuna Chilli Mayo Tacos. I know he loved his main by how quickly he devoured it, and by the sounds he made whilst doing so, but I’ll tell you about my dishes.
I love chicken gyoza - it’s always one of my favourites, and Tang didn’t disappoint with theirs. Very tasty, and the dipping sauce was gorgeous with them. They’re also fairly large, which is great!
My Tuna Chilli Mayo Tacos, however, were outstanding! Delicately balanced, yet punchy flavours, between the tuna itself, the chilli mayo, and my two favourite elements: the mango salsa and the yuzu avocado! Simply divine! This was mouthwateringly delicious! One of the best dishes I’ve had here in Cape Town!
The next joy was my dessert called ‘The Bento Box’, a playful and sweet twist on the traditional Japanese bento box, which is of course for savoury meals. It was filled with all sorts of mini yummy goodness: a mini chocolate brownie, a mini lemon tartlet, a scoop of beautifully rich raspberry sorbet, and my absolute favourite: a heavenly crème brûlée topped with a just-right scoop of coconut sorbet! I was in absolute heaven! This was all served with wonderful fresh fruit, also! I had grapes, strawberry, kiwi, grapefruit, orange, passionfruit and gorgeous edible flowers for good measure!
Every element of our meals was presented wonderfully and there were certainly Instagrammable moments throughout! It was all fantastic!
On top of all of this, not only is the food excellent, the presentation beautiful, the restaurant itself gorgeously styled, but our waiter, JP (Jean-Pierre) was the highlight for us both! JP made us immediately feel welcomed and like we had somehow discovered a fabulous secret just by being there! He was funny, incredibly charming, warm, friendly, kind, and made us feel like royalty with his personalised service. He even asked us to come back and ask for him because he’d love to serve again with more recommendations next time - plus he said he wanted to see photos from the sunset harbour cruise!
Thank you so much JP for being the best server we could ever want! We will 10000% be back and asking for you! What a superb experience, all-round! We’ll certainly be...
Read moreTo TANG or not to TANG?... In my case is definitely NOT to TANG. The worse experience ever. There is a lot going on in this place but definitely no LUXURY poor SERVICE and no flavours to find anywhere near this place. Steep prices, very expensive for poor quality and poor service. Made booking for group of 6,arrived on time, were offered table for 4 which was not acceptable for group of 6 obviously. Asked to wait, waited few minutes not a big deal, got table for 6. Order drinks and food. Music was coming from all over: restaurant itself, outside live band and neighbour restaurants , screaming was the only option to communicate with each other. Let me clarify although I'm not professional food critic but been traveling to Asia for the over 25 years now, been to many Asian countries know and love Asian cuisine very much. Was eaten in fancy places as well as on the street markets from the street stalls as well as well as in places like Bangkok Mandarin Oriental. It's very rare you get bad food in Asia. But let's go back to TANG experience. My order arrived 10min later then the rest of my group, was not the idea having to wait so long while the others were eating. Order Red curry paste with fish (don't remember name of dish) red curry wasn't mixed well and I got salty blobs and less salty bits in my mouth, They just pour red curry sauce all over the fish but didn't cook fish in it, fish was nothing special, just bland really. My partner order Baby kingklip with Tamarin and Red chilly sauce and even asked the waiter if the sauce is spicy, waiter said not really. The kingklip arrived on the tiny tinny plate super difficult to maneuver fish on such small plate with absolutely NO sauce at all. Fish was very dry and overcooked. No salt to pepper and no sauce to be seen anywhere near the fish. He also ordered Pok Choy which was full of sand and wasn't washed properly therefore not eatable. Another friend order salmon which was over cooked and dry although she ordered medium rare, she pointed it out and they did change it within new one which was prepared much better. Another friend had angry duck dish which was not good at all. Has a lot of red curry paste covered with lots of red paprika. The flavors and the taste where awful. Especially for the price you pay you expect something better than that. Didn't really complain to the waiter, just patiently waited for the bill which was obviously quite pricey paid and walked away. Never again, thank you and goodbye Mr...
