I was excited to try the marinated crabs and shrimp, but unfortunately, it was a major letdown. The marinated raw crab didn’t taste fresh and had a bitter flavor. The fishiness was overpowering and intensified with each bite, to the point where I had to hold my breath to swallow the last bite. Eventually, I decided not to finish the crab because I couldn’t stand the strong fishy taste. The raw marinated shrimp had the same issues—bitterness and overwhelming fishiness. I ended up not finishing my meal and had to get pastries elsewhere to cleanse my palate of the lingering fish taste.
For context, I eat a lot of seafood and this isn’t my first time eating marinated raw crabs.
On a positive note, the abalone congee was excellent. The abalone was tender, and the congee was seasoned perfectly. The staff also gave us complimentary pancake, which were mediocre at best. The service, however, was good. Our server was very attentive and even helped us remove the shells...
Read moreLocated at an alleyway near myeondong station. Reached about 2pm and there were no other diners around except us. Ordered the fresh crab, ginseng chicken and abalone congee. The owner is really friendly and interacts well. She taught how the crab is eaten and even fed us with the right mixture of sauce with the right part of the crab together. Crab was really fresh till all one could taste is the sweetness of the seafood and not a single fishy taste. The price of the fresh crab is on a high side as it cost 45k per crab but I recommend to try it out at least once. As for the ginseng chicken is very satisfying and hearty. A whole chicken with rice underneath it so the portion can be overwhelming to some. Lastly the abalone congee, I do not recommend unless those who loves congee or soggy rice from the bottom of their heart. It is very heavy, thick and can tired of it after few spoons of it. Overall, the service is great and we enjoyed the hospitality of...
Read moreI love Korean food. I thought I knew all three was to Korean food, oh boy was I wrong! I tried their signature ganjang gejang and it dethroned my previous favorite Korean dishes.
The way the crab is prepared and served is top notch. The meat is succulent and sweet, the soy sauce marinade adds an excellent salty balance, and the umami of the crab roe elevated this meal to new heights. And I haven't even mentioned the 9 types of banchan! Lots of delicious veggie goodies to accompany me on my crab adventure!
My meal was as wholesome as it was delicious! The owner actually showed me how to eat the purse of the crab as it was meant to be a cold soup. She actually prepared a spoonful for me which was so sweet and reminded me of my own grandmother. You can really tell the pride and care that goes into the food. As I left, she even handed me a mango soda which was very kind of her!
Definitely make this part of your Seoul...
