Myeonghwadang(Myeongdong 1st Branch) — Restaurant in Seoul

A hidden gem! We went back twice in a row. The bibimbap was so good, as was the pork mandu and spicy cold noodles. After reading the review from locals who have been eating here for over 40 years, we had to give it a try and it definitely did not disappoint. The staff are polite and the food is served quick enough. Easy to order in English - just scan the QR code at your table, show the staff your order and pay after you finish eating at the counter beside the door. I'm coming back during my next trip!

Note: you have to walk up a narrow flight of stairs as it's on level 2 so it's not wheelchair or stroller...

저는 한국인이고, 28년간 한국에서 먹었던 모든 음식중 최악의 음식입니다. 저는 원래 리뷰를 잘 달지 않는데 이 식당에 가는 외국인 피해자분들이 생길까봐 공익적 차원에서 리뷰를 답니다. 한국에는 이 식당보다 수백배 맛있는곳이 넘쳐납니다. 제발 이 식당에서 먹은 음식으로 한국음식에 대한 이상한 선입견이 생기지 않기를 바랍니다. 비빔쫄면은 지나치게 짜고 아무런 맛의 깊이가 없습니다. 우동은 달아서는 안되는 음식인데 달고 조미료맛밖에 나지 않습니다. 김밥은 내용물이 부족하고 맛이 없습니다. 심지어 사장은 식사 내내 직원들에게 큰 소리로 짜증만내고, 손님들에게도 불친절합니다. 여기서 음식을 먹고 하루 종일 기분이 좋지 않네요. 아무쪼록 더이상의 피해자가 나오지 않기를 바랍니다.

I am Korean, and this is the worst food I've eaten in my 28 years of eating in Korea. I don't usually write reviews, but I'm writing this one for public interest to prevent foreign visitors from becoming victims of this restaurant. There are hundreds of places in Korea that serve food hundreds of times more delicious than this restaurant. I sincerely hope you don't develop strange prejudices about Korean food based on what you eat here. The bibim-jjolmyeon is excessively salty with no depth of flavor. The udon, which shouldn't be sweet, is sweet and tastes only of artificial flavoring. The kimbap lacks filling and is tasteless. To make matters worse, the owner constantly yells at the staff throughout the meal and is also unfriendly to customers. Eating food here has ruined my mood for the entire day. Myunghwadang, located in Myeongdong, is a beloved snack restaurant with a 45-year history at the same location.

The gimbap here is especially delicious, and other menu items like tteokbokki, noodle soup, and spicy chewy noodles (jjolmyeon) are all flavorful and satisfying. Prices are very affordable, ranging from around $4 to $6.50.
