Melrose´s Tenerife — Restaurant in Arona

We have been going to Tenerife in this area for 30 years and never experienced anything like this. From the moment we sat down, we had an abysmal time. We waited a long while to be served and asked the staff if we could have a drink and they gave off the impression that it was too much to ask. The manager who then served us had a very unhinged attitude and was extremely rude when we were enquiring about a specification of the meal, very condescending and making a scene about it.

When our food finally came, they brought the starters with the main meal at the same time and when I enquired about having the starter first then the main meal, the manager started shouting and swearing at us and being really aggressive. When we got up to walk out, we thought we would do the decent thing and pay partially for the meal even though we did not eat any of it. Suddenly, the manager then proceeded to attempt to snatch the wallet out of my husband’s hand, demanding for us to pay the full bill and calling us derogatory names regarding us being English. Two customers stood up to intervene and defuse the situation who also said that they had seen everything that this manager had done. The manager threatened to call the police on us to which my husband was happy for him to do, considering he tried to steal his wallet and playing tug of war with him to try and obtain his wallet. I was so shocked with this behaviour, this is not what you expect from an establishment. We just wanted to have nice meal on our last night.

He then followed us up the street, shouting and swearing. My husband is a 77 year old man who does not drink alcohol and has been really unwell this year and we were looking forward to our first holiday of the year and this was just absolutely disgraceful. Food excellent but that is all you will pay for! Service is appalling!!!! If only front of house were as competent as the kitchen staff. We were shown to our seat and given the food and drinks menus. We waited ten minutes before someone took our drinks and food order. Some time later we received our drinks, after customers who came in after us received theirs first. The lager we ordered was not what we were given, but we were charged for the dearer drink. Our food finally arrived but we were not asked if there was anything else we would like, e.g. condiments. I finally managed to get hold of a waitress and ask for vinegar, this did not arrive. Again I had to ask for vinegar but my partner had nearly finished his meal by the time he got it! No-one checked we were happy with our meal at any time. We finished our meal and waited and waited for our plates to be cleared, when they finally were, we were not asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu. A menu was finally brought over after other customers who came after us were given theirs! At this point we had enough and asked for the bill, again this did not come. Ten minutes later I went up to the waiter and told him we had been waiting for the bill so he went and got it. It was more than it should have been AND when our change came back it was wrong. My family and I heard great reviews about this place so we had to give it a go. Boy do I wish I could go back in time, what an absolute waste of time and money!!! They couldn't sit is together so we were sat with a reserved 2 seater table between us. I get it, they might not like moving tables around. So we were all sat at the same time. We all ordered at the same time, but my table didn't even have our starters by the time our other table were finished their deserts. We stopped the waitress a number of times to ask and she just kept saying "yes, it's on its way". Now it was 8:30 when we sat down and bare in mind we had 2 small kids at our table who were pretty hungry already. We didn't get our food till almost 10pm. They were so slow, yet as soon as they saw empty plates they snatched them out from under us. My son was stilleating his pizza (he still had 2 slices and mid way through one) and it was snatched from under his nose. We didn't complain, we were as patient and polite as humanly possible, but once we were "fed" they were in a rush to get us out. The wait was so long there were people waiting who just walked out. The food was so so, I've had much better for much cheaper. The cocktail tasted like diluted juice with ice. We might have just caught them on a bad day, but all in all, I wouldn't waste my time or...
