A mediocre meal ended with my wife having water dropped all over her.
We found this spot by chance walking the alleys of the gothic quarter to our hotel. It looks amazing and seems to have a great atmosphere but unfortunately the food and the general attitude of the staff is less to be desired. Most of what we ate lacked flavour or a unique, defining characteristic which seems crazy in a place whose tapas is driven by punchy, powerful flavour combinations.
The cauliflower had been boiled, a bit of seasoning thrown over the top and laid on a puree, all of which had no taste whatsoever. The truffle ravioli definitely has a lot of truffle oil in it but not much else, piles of creamy sauce with no flavour, no cheese to give you the needed balance and zing for a dish essentially cream based. The most flavour was in the prawns but it was singular and lacked depth, also the prawns themselves are tiny segments and not whole.
The waitress who served us was on the bar, she seemed a little indifferent to us after we ordered and never checked on us again even though we were seated right infront and our drinks definitely needed refreshing well before midway through the meal.
Preparations time also vary so some dishes come flying out whilst we waited another half an hour for the last one.
One of the waitresses was clearing up in the upper portion of the restaurant that hangs over the bar and knocked a wine bucket full of ice water which caused most of the contents to fall over my wife’s head, clothes and phone and what was left of the food. When I looked up she seemed to be laughing about it, she said sorry and disappeared to the back of the area but never came down to check on us. When I told the maitre d' about this she seemed shocked by this and gave us a lot of tissues to dry up but that was about it, there was no ownership of responsibility. They kept trying to offer us shots or a dessert (neither of which we wanted at this point, the shots are also complimentary at the end of the meal it seems) and then took a single dish off the price of the bill. I’m not one for causing a scene in any restaurant or trying to avoid paying as I’ve worked in hospitality before and understand this isn’t the sole responsibility of all the staff but more establishments should understand the effect an experience like this has on their guests and the consequences it will have to both retaining customers and gaining new ones once this information is shared to a wider audience.
Not sure who Sensi, whether it’s one chef or a dining concept driven by many but I feel they’ve lost their finger on the pulse...
Read moreI usually do not write my review in English, but to convey my experience in a more coherent, and precise way, I am writing this review in English.
Single line comment: Thanks for the meal, and no thanks for the service.
First of all, the atmosphere and the food is amazing. I want to thank the chef for the amazing dishes.
To my main point, the service is absolutely horrible. The waiter never comes to the table for the first 20 mins. He came 10 mins after we called him. While the tall, no glasses waiter was ‘flirting’ and making small talk with girls’ tables for a long time, he told me he’ll come “when I’m ready”. I do understand he can chill with other customers, but at with another customer’s expense? No way. That is extremely unprofessional.
After then, he was showing some attitude while getting our order. Meanwhile, he was very friendly and receiving order from the next table soon after they sat, which made me feel discriminated.
After the first dish, our waiter changed, and a man with glasses started to serve us. After the third dish, we wanted to add another dish, so we asked if he could get another order. He told me to wait, and did not come back. Our last dish came, and we asked the waiter with glasses again to get another order from us, and yet again he never came back.
Frankly, I do feel discriminated. Maybe the service is just poor, but we were not someone who walked in. We made the reservation far before our trip, which means that we really wanted to experience the place. However, the experience we had was less than underwhelming. Comparing with the service our next table got, it sure feels like discrimination.
I am not expecting a Michelin star service and experience at a tapas bar. I know what to expect, but the experience was far too disappointing.
I would give a single star, but I am giving another star just to pay my respects to the chef. The service is less than a star.
I am also writing this review in detail because I do see a slight possibility of this place to recover its dignity. If I feel this place is worthless, I would simply just give a star and not write my feedback.
I hope this place receives my...
Read moreNow, I don't usually wrote negative reviews, but I feel I habe to this time. My husband and I visited this restaurant last Friday. The restaurant was busy buy we got a table. The waiter was incredibly lovely, taking time to explain the dishes and the pairings and making jokes with us. His English was fantastic and he was very hospitable. The food was absolutely gorgeous! A few days later, after talking about the food from this restaurant constantly, we decided to go back. This time, it was completely different! There was only one waiter and one barman. The poor waiter was waiting the whole restaurant! Upstairs and downstairs! It was incredibly busy, just like the first time we visited but this time he was alone with no other waiters. First of all, it took ages for someone to even come and take our orders, then when they did, we had to wait ages for our food order. Our food came out with such huge gaps in between, we were left waiting over half an hour sometimes for the next dishes. When the dishes came.out, one toast that we enjoyed the first time was so cold and we didn't not enjoy it-probably because the food was ready early but the waiter was busy with the other orders so it was left on the side for a long time. We didn't even bother to get dessert this time because we couldn't afford to waste our evening for another hour to wait to get a dessert. The waiter was really apologetic that he had not been able to tend to us more during the second visut, but we could see how fast he was working but it was not enough for one person. This makes me sad to write this review because it's a wonderful venue, the food is the best I had in Barcelona and the waiter was so incredible lovely, but he is clearly run off his feet and needs help to serve customers in this restaurant. The fact that this is a tapas restaurant, the waiters are needed more because people order quite a few dishes at the same time and the waiter needs to be constantly there for then. I urge the management to sort this out, otherwise customers will be driven away from possibly the best tapas bar for...
