El Gallo de Oro - Mexican Cuisine — Restaurant in Barcelona

We started off with the aguachile -absolutely spectacular, not just to look at, but the flavours and textures were right up there too. After that, we ordered dishes to share. Grilled birria - honestly, no words. You get five tacos, very generously filled. Authentic! Panuchos- these weren't the highlight, but they were grand. We missed having the option to add our own habanero salsa, and the pickled onions that came with them could've done with a bit more acidity. Arrachera - wow.! The meat was tender and beautifully seasoned. Cheesecake - what a treat! Nothing more to say.. Tres leches cake - this was our least favourite. The ice cream was gorgeous, but the cake itself needed more flavour from the milks and should have been served colder. To drink, we enjoyed guava mezcalitas that absolutely blew us away-lovely flavour, excellent presentation, and honestly, I'd come back...

What a spectacular place. so I like to eat at the native kinda places in the country I'm visiting. so going to Spain, I didn't think I wanted to eat Mexican. but it was recommended by the apartment we stayed and my sons fancied going there. it's phenomenal. The guy was just really really nice, really welcoming, friendly, helpful, attentive and fun. made our whole experience just superb. the menu is varied enough that we all had something we absolutely loved. Everything was really delicious. I cannot recommend this place enough. if you go to Barcelona and definitely if you go near Sagrada Familia you HAVE to go. Oh and have the Sopa Aztecs. This gem is walking distance from the Sagrada Familia. Authentic Mexican cuisine and excellent service in a modern, eclectic setting. My husband and I shared the Nachos Gallo. He also had the Enchiladas Mole and I had the Vegetarian Tacos (with great sauces.) Everything was superbly delicious!! My husband never thought he’d find mole in Spain. Thank you, Juan, for such a wonderful experience, amazing food and nice conversation. All with a nice bottle of white wine!
