La Pala Boqueria — Restaurant in Barcelona

Awful experience for a solo traveller. Since I arrived they were worried to know when I was leaving. I told them I was going to eat and drink something and leave but clearly the worry was that I was keeping a table busy for a low amount order. Not only at the start the waitress wasn't very happy with having me there, but also few minutes later another waiter came to ask me again if I was going to order something else because they had a reservation for later, (I should have left the first time). Finally waiting to pay the waitress came to tell me the people who had reserved had arrived and I had to leave, fortunately I had to leave by that time, when I left, my table was empty, no one changed to that one. We came for a bite at around 6pm. They told us the kitchen was closed, which was fine because they had a great pizza selection still. We are both Spanish learners and ordered drinks in Spanish. When the server brought the drinks to the table we thanked him in Spanish, upon which he complained to other staff in front of us about whether he should speak to us in Spanish or English, not thinking we could understand. I have had some hit and miss experiences with food in Las Ramblas, truth be told. But this restaurant was a hidden gem. Genuinelt beautiful food for great pricing, the staff were incredibly friendly and understood exactly what we wanted, the food was quick to come, and had a genuine Mediterranean vibe to it. It is a far cry from those tourist rip off areas. I wwould 100 % recommend I will be back next time in Barcelona. My only complaint being that they ran out of olives!
