Cosy good restaurant with great food!
We had just visited sagrada familia and was very hungry. I used Google maps and saw that LaTaqueria had good reviews and it was very close to the church. We went there but they asked if we had done reservation and we said no but they managed to give us a table anyway. I recommend you to book a table because after 10 minutes the restaurant was full.
The restaurant itself is very small and narrow and it gets very loud but somehow we loved it! There was such a friendly feeling in The air and the guys that worked there was so kind and genuine. We've been in Barcelona for 5 days and gone to several restaurants but this is the first time we got proper service. We didn't get hassled with overpriced food as we have been on other places. On the contrary our waiter told us not to order too many starters since they were enough to feed 2 people. The restaurant is placed in an empty alley. Super interesting Mexican food and lovely desserts. I highly recommend the corn cake with ice cream. The lime and chili sorbet with a shot of liquor pored over was great but very salty.
So to make it short: it's definitely worth a visit but try to come earlier or book a table. Humble interior, cosy and fun! Prices are actually good! Most of it cost between 4-13 € so you do get good stuff for that price. Portions are average so I recommend you also order 1-2 appetizers. If it was closer to our apartment we are renting I'd love to come here...
Read moreI've been to more then a few mexican restaurants on several continents. I say this so that when I say this is some of the most wonderful mexican food I've ever had, you understand it encompasses the Americas.
Generally I find latin american food in Europe to be good, but to have sacrificed a lot to appeal to local pallets. This restaurant obviously still appealed to locals, being that I needed a reservation. That said the food was incredible.
Vibrant, spiced to perfection, and as authentic as I feel comfortable to call it, being from the USA. The spicy salsa had a delightful burn, the Pastor tacos were delicious beyond describing, and the mojito one of the best I've had since leaving North America. There's more to the delight, but not enough room to describe it.
I don't have enough space to describe their wonderful Mezcal selection either. Rest assured though, as someone who has missed that delightful substance to near distraction, La Taqueria had not only a phenomenal selection but a passion for it that was inspiring.
The food here is so delightful that I'd say it's crucial to try it even if you have limited time. You may be able to get mexican cuisine elsewhere, but you can't get this mexican cuisine anywhere but here. Don't miss out, and I hate that phrase, but...
Read moreThe food here is good, but not outstanding. The problem is the noise, just before and at prime eating time 9pm+. The cocktails and drink prices for the prime location is good. Reserve a table to avoid disappointment.
Typically I eat and go as you end up shouting over your food - I guess that's the tourists and locals competing and the super intense acoustics of this place. As it's so small it's hard to insulate internally thus stopping the architectural reverb and amplification.
Often the staff nudge you out of the door as there's lots of tourists waiting outside for tables, so there's a pressure feeling. Didn't like that.
There's lots of vegetarian entrances and a few mains that could be more upscale and desirable given the very similar price to meat and the love put into those plates.
The sauce selection for a stylised street food is very limited and here's where I thought they fell down the most. I'd like to see some more sauces, served in bottles with smoky, sour creamy, chipotle mayo, mango based stuff - that'd make this place stand out.
Overall, food good, beer wine cocktail prices great... let down by noise. Not a romantic...
