Lateral Consell de Cent — Restaurant in Barcelona

I wanted to test this restaurant, even if one of my friends told me to avoid it... so I came on the 13 of November with my mother. The food was "okay" (but expensive for barcelona) but the service....!!! Never seen a service like this. First of all, it was really slow. Secondly the manager (the only one dress in black) was screaming on the waiter in front of us. We asked for the bill, and after waiting for 15 min we decided to go to pay at the counter because we did not want to wait more. After paying, we asked the manager a receipt. He started screaming on us, talked to us really bad, and after 10 min of negotiation he finally accept to do it for us. And the worse... after we left, the manager ran after us in the street to ask if we payed!!! I have NEVER been treated like this in a restaurant. I totally understand why there are such long queues in the adjoining Vinitus and Lateral is almost empty. The difference is not so much the food as SERVICE, which is almost non existent in Lateral. We often go to Vinitus but, when the waiting time is too long, we sometimes try Lateral and nothing, absolutely nothing has changed in the past 3 years. You come, wait to be seated in front of the restaurant and … you wait and wait and wait because the waiter has some more important job - folding the napkins or talking to someone. The restaurant is almost empty but nobody will come to attend you. So you wait and wait … until your table at Vinitus is finally ready and you happily go there. I went there last night for my 30th birthday with some friends, food was good and waiters were friendly. However, when I booked (a week ago) I asked for a full cake with candles, instead, I received only a slice of cake with a candle. When I went to ask for the full cake as mentioned, it arrived 20 minutes later and it was still a bit frozen. I went to pay the bill and SURPRISE they charged me 72€ for the cake! I went to talk to the manager and the only thing he said was “I’ll offer you a round of chupitos”. My friends are still shocked that I paid that amount of money for this cake.
