McCarthy's Bar — Restaurant in Barcelona

I was spat on in the bar by a customer a few nights ago who should have been removed a long time before the incident occured. I don't like to hide behind online reviews so I went to confront the owner, Ken the next day. He'd been in the bar that evening, he knew this customer was a liability but he let the situation evolve, in fact Ken left the bar that evening leaving said blind drunk customer in his bar annoying many patrons. The bar tenders reaction was slow & showed no remorse in my direction after it happened while I shouted at them to separate us and call the cops or I would. I'd asked this customer on two separate occasions to stay away from my as he kept bumping into me while I watched the soccer.

Ken, a lot of people will read this review, rather than taking the aggressive reaction you did with me telling me to post my issue on the internet you might consider your business. As an Irishman living abroad for 25+ years I've visited many Irish bars the world over, Dunnes and The Bullman in Barcelona included. For readers, I'd tell you support these other two Irish bars in Barcelona, professional owners, clean bright bars, clean bathrooms.

Ken, you care more about having the craic than being a business owner, maybe some lost custom will put a dent in that misguided ego of yours. I write raw, honest reviews, check the rest of my google reviews, I give praise when it is due. You represent Ireland abroad, sadly on this occasion in a very poor way. Some lost clientele will be some good...

This pub is not your typical irish pub abroad - It has irish staff. The drinks are well priced and theres a decent sized projector screen for sky sports.

The owner is an abusive individual and for the entire time we were in the pub he verbally abused one member of staff and further spouted profanities down the phone to someone else. I can't imagine this is a once off and this type of behaviour makes me ashamed to say he is Irish.

The bar itself was cold at the time as evidenced by 4 people sitting at the bar in their jackets, but you couldn't expect the owner to notice as he was too engrossed at telling tall tales to customers whilst drinking at the bar himself.

If he wasn't present I would have no problem returning to the pub. I can only hope his young staff member finds a new job to get away from such an...

GREAT BAR!!! I have travelled to Barcelona for the last 8-9 years and actually stayed in apartments a couple of doors up the street the 1st time I came... i never returned to the apartments but I always return to this bar 😀.

Very welcoming bar staff - you enter with a smile and leave with a smile (and a good chance of a hangover in the morning)

One night I stayed in the bar long enough to be persuaded to propose to my Mrs... (which I did on the way home from the bar). Luckily we are still together and will be visiting next month 😃...

On a serious note. 1 of my favourite bars in the world, you always get chatting to some1 and make a new friend. We look forward to our return 👍.....
