First time out to a restaurant since confinement started in Barcelona on March 13th 2020. We bumped into Oporto returning home from a daily walk and perused the menu for take-away options. We've been to Oporto several times before the pandemics, alone and with friends and we've always had an enjoyable experience, food wise, and have never been disappointed. The food is exquisite, the real decent, traditional, all-time portuguese food, with wide variety of dishes, from bacalhau, to "Francesinha" (the famous succulent sandwich typical from Oportol), to the usual starters of rissóis, bolinhos de bacalhau, bread and olives with cheese, etc. Everything is tasty, freshly made. The amount of food is ok, though far from the generous male portions, in traditional portuguese style, unlike the midget portions served in spanish restaurants. We had just a couple of starters with a glass of wine : bread, cheese, olives, pork meat "rissóis" (what many people might call Portuguese empanadas) and codfish pastries (bolinhos de bacalhau). Everything fresh and tasty. The wine was from the Douro valley in Northern Portugal (same region where Port wine is produced) and it was quite good for a regular wine. It was maybe a bit too chilled from the wine freezer, but it had body and fruitful taste and tones, unlike many cheap spanish wines served around Barcelona where cooling the wine is a trick to hide how cheap and tasteless it is. Waiters are all portuguese and they own the place, they deliver professional, gentle, amicable service, both in general behaviour, manners and the tone they address you. No irritating, misplaced, loud and rowdy spanish manners and talks, we've come to eat, not to socialize and make friends with invasive waiters. We waited briefly for the table and seats to be cleaned with sprayed disinfectant. Waiters were wearing masks during all the time they were tending tables and servicing customers. One of the best places to eat genuine portuguese food cooked and served by nice, professional portuguese people. The only down sides: 1. A bit pricey, even for the amount of food, but then again this is Barcelona and the neighbourhood of Sagrada Familia, so just a sandwich will cost you anywhere between 4 to 5 euro; 2. The outside terrace is on the side-walk, bordering the street and near a traffic-light, so cars, loud free-exhaust motorcycles, trucks and garbage vehicles pass right behind your back making unbearable noise, expelling fumes and bad smells, which is definitely not at all pleasuring to accompany a meal, but again, this is not the restaurant's fault, its just the way it is all around in Barcelona's neighbourhoods and you either take it as it is or go and complain to the city hall in Plaza Saint Jaume. Once the inside room will be open again, it will be a lot quieter and...
Read moreMy absolute favourite Portuguese restaurant in Barcelona! If I could, I’d come here every day. Everything is so delicious and the atmosphere of the place is absolutely welcoming, it’s something that not a lot of restaurants in city center can keep up with These guys use fresh ingredients, they use as much Portuguese products as possible to recreate the taste of Porto. Their recipes are really good and they are trying to maintain the traditional taste of stuff, I love it The prices here are quite affordable. During the weekdays they have special dishes here, which you should not hesitate to try. They do the best bacalhau is Catalonia, I’m sure of it. Being not a big fan of fish, I ordered it a couple of times here and I’ll continue doing so Secretos de ternera is one of my favourite dishes here, all meat lovers, it’s a hint for you 😄 They also have cool deserts, it’s always handmade traditional Portuguese doces The staff here is another big love of mine. They are amazing people, very professional and attentive, but also they treat you as you’re the part of their family, it’s so cute. They speak Spanish, Portuguese and English - that’s for sure The restaurant is not super big, it has a terrace and they can arrange an extra space. If you want to make sure you’ll have a table for your company, you can always call and make a reservation There is a bird where you can write stuff and words of gratitude. I wrote stuff in Ukrainian there 🥰 Btw, for my Ukrainian peeps, Portuguese cuisine is pretty similar to Ukrainian one, so if you miss Ukrainian style dishes, you can come here and try something similar, but from Iberia I highly recommend this place for everyone who like Portugal or who are sick of typical...
Read moreI'm portuguese and I can appreciate good portuguese food. The restaurant is located in a very touristic place so we thought it would be expensive..., but not, for Barcelona is a very value for money restaurant. The restaurant was full and the service took a while but the waiters fulfilled the delay... They brought some 'broa' (corn flour bread) for the meanwhile... then the ordered dishes started arriving to the table... We were 4 and we ordered the a "Francesinha" (a smoked sausages sandwich, covered with melted cheese and beer sauce) with french fries for one, two cream codfish and a tenderloin with french fries. All tree different dishes were just perfect... The "francesinha" sausages were correctly cooked inside of the sandwich, the cheese and beer sauce were very tasty, the flavors were similar to the original "Capa Negra II" from Oporto city. The codfish was presented in a clay bowl that was used to roast the cream codfish in the oven, the flavor transported me to my mothers place and made me feel for some moments as I was in Portugal. The tenderloin was correct, the meat was correctly cooked and the french fries were homemade (like in most local portuguese restaurants) not frozen. The only less good were the desserts, frozen 'homemade like' made by third party company, not the best option. The only acceptable dessert was the chocolate mousse. At the end the bill was correct aprox. 18Eur per person for a menu with a bottle of wine and some waters. But overall, this is the best portuguese gastronomy representative restaurant...
