Cafe culture is still alive at this delightful rincon de Argentinean empanadas!
I can almost see The Lost Generation there at a table on the sidewalk, smoking cigarettes, talking loudly as they loaf away the day, discussing last night, and preparing for the coming one.
I began with a cafe con leche, my standard request in Spain. However they make that cup of coffee, It's really good and I can't get it anywhere other than Spain.
The waitress spoke a little English, and explained every single empanada to me with great memory, because The list is pretty long! I chose a vegetarian one with cheese. It was everything you're perfect empanada should be: flaky on the outside, gooey on the inside; it came hot and dripping.
It's a great corner for people watching, too. On a fall afternoon the sunlight is perfect on that side of the block, and the weather couldn't be any better here lately in October.
I enjoyed my brief sit, read a little more biography on Antoni Gaudi, took a picture with my phone, paid my tab, and stepped out for the afternoon, charged with caffeine, and appreciative of all the global influences on Barcelona.
Billy Joe Wise was there. A traveler from Texas. During the great pandemic.
And though the Lost Generation is long gone, and spirit is still alive right here in Barcelona, and I'm calling ourselves The Slacker Generation!

Wow. I have today changed my review from 5 stars to zero, following the disgraceful service today. Despite being a regular who ate there 4 or 5 times a week, the waitress completely ignored me for 20mins until i complained. She mumbled and walked away. She then made a point of serving the people who had just arrived, right in front of me.
So i went to the counter and tried to order, but the girl refused.
So i explained thay i am a regular and that i really dont want to loose one of my usual plavea to eat, and asked to speak to the boss. The girl behond the counter said that she was the owner, they really dont care, and they wont take my order!! So after 30mins i had to leave. AVOID THIS PLACE.
The most amazing salad!! Every mouthful different... And the empeñadas!!!
WOW..
Definitely one of the best restaurants in Barcelona, but only for those who know. Amazing empeñadas, salada, brownies and the coolest, friendliest staff you could imagine. Thank you...
Read moreBeware - Exchange Rip off when paying bill! Had lunch here last month on our visit to the City. The food/Pasties were reasonable although we weren't really sure what the different Items were but I guess that's half the fun! Service average, the waitress wasn't particularly friendly. I was disappointed that when paying the bill the Waitress took it upon herself to charge me £ Pound sterling instead of Euros at a Rip off exchange rate without even informing me or offering me a choice. This added another couple of Euros to the bill which is sharp practice. I only noticed when I got my credit card bill later back in the UK- Too late to raise the issue. I'm sure I'm not the first person or only one to be fooled! INSIST ON...
