I don’t often review restaurants but this was an excellent dinner find while in Barcelona on business. Tipico Taberna Moderna is a relatively new establishment that sparkles with all the freshness and energy you would expect. I found them by filtering for well reviewed tapas restaurants on Google, and I’m very pleased to attest that their rating is well deserved and I’m happy to help solidify it.
Although they have several entree options, my colleague and I ate only from the tapas menu. We started with the focaccia, ham, cheese, olives and figs platter (fig jam was delicious!!) and then moved on to the hummus, tuna tartare, and mushroom croquettes. The intensity of the mushroom taste in the croquettes was a particular standout. Everything was washed down with a jug of the delicious and refreshing pink sangria- here’s a hint: be sure to stir up the strawberry compote at the bottom of the jug before pouring!
The staff was friendly and enthusiastic, and perfectly conversant in English. All round, a very fine meal. Thank you to Martina...

On the menu each paella costs 27 euros, I clarified with the waitress on the portion size and as it's quite pricey even for one person only, I specifically asked for one then ordered a salad on top. But when the bill came we were charged double for the paella as she claimed two portions was given, which I seriously doubted as I have had paellas in restaurants many times before, what was cooked and charged did not amount to a double portion and 57 euros, and for the same money you could certainly feed two people with starters and mains plus a wine in other restaurants.
The food was good and the service was decent, but you will have to be really careful on the charges and the so-called...
