Terraza Verbena Rooftop by Monument Hotel — Restaurant in Barcelona

I am rating this facility with one star only - which goes to the location - and it’s because one simply cannot rate with 0.

First of all, the food was not fresh and my friends who tried the meat dishes had digestive issues during the night. Not to mention there was a very poor selection of vegan options.

If this was not enough reason to rate 1, let’s discuss service: it was disappointing to say the least - they could comfortably cut their prices by half - to keep it posh for the location, for what they actually offer costs 3 times less anywhere else in the city. We were waiting on average +30 minutes for anything we ordered - only to get various products that were never ordered, before getting the right ones. The staff had politely apologised for these mistakes, but that didn’t stop them to add the wrong items on the final pay note. The last order (drinks and deserts) arrived somewhere around 10 minutes before the closure time, although it was collected some 40 minutes earlier. This turned into the highlight of the night: the dormant staff finally woke up during these last minutes before the closure, pushing us actively to finish the drinks and leave. Some of us tried to go to the bathroom, but the staff kept insisting that all of us go out of the bathroom and leave the place immediately so that we don’t exceed the official closure time.

Server on the rooftop, a guy with blond hair, was extremely rude and didn’t greet us when we walked in. Just walked by us and looked at us in a very negative and stuck up way. He came up to us finally after a few minutes, again didn’t say Hello or anything, looked at us and said “you can’t sit here, you can sit over there” and pointed to a corner and walked away. The place only had a few tables of people and had plenty of free tables available on a Sunday evening, so it made no sense why he wouldn’t let us sit in that table. Honestly, if he would have been polite and said hi and told us that we needed to sit in another area for whatever reason, we would have accepted and understood. But he was not friendly at all and didn’t make us feel comfortable. How can you not even say Hello to clients with a smile? It’s absurd! We decided to leave immediately. We felt like we were being judged for our clothing because he had a very negative attitude when he looked at and spoke to us. It’s a shame to treat clients like that, especially when they’re coming to spend money. By the way, we were dressed fine, but probably didn’t look like how he wanted us to. My husband and my daughter from Paris came to Barcelona to spend time together. We just got here from a long day in the rain. We decided to come to the rooftop for a nice bottle of vine and some tapas. When we sat down the server with blonde hair walked by us and looked at us rudely. We sat at a table next to 3 gentlemen sitting like we were. The rude server came over to us and only said, you cannot sit here. You have to sit over there. It was a table way at the end in a corner.
