Restaurante Ambigu — Restaurant in Bilbao

Great concept and implementation: a relatively inexpensive semi-fixed menu with two courses, dessert, water, and either wine or cider. My wife and I liked almost the offerings, and we chose different plates. The cold beet and yogurt soup with avocado was wonderful. The pepper filled with rice, vegetables, and sauce was very tasty. Excellent salmon, and savory wrap. I enjoyed the tarta de queso with blueberries, though my wife didn’t enjoy as much the bretona.

As wine and cider were included in the price, we were surprised that we were given a bottle of each (we drank only a cup of wine and maybe half of the bottle of cider).

Until dessert, everything was perfect. While we were eating dessert, we were told our table was needed and we were rushed out while my wife hadn’t yet finished her dessert. We were told to pay our bill at the counter. Then we and two other couples were kept waiting for several minutes, standing at the counter, while the staff focused on cleaning our tables and ushering new customers to our former tables, instead of closing the transaction with us. Fuimos a comer con reserva, recomiendo hacerlo así porque al menos el día que fuimos se llenó bastante.

Tienen menú del día a 15 euros, que para ser Bilbao y la zona en la que se encuentra ubicado, no está nada mal de precio.

Dentro de las operaciones que había en el menú pedimos:

De primero.

Ñoquis con sardina y tomate.

Crepe de pisto y huevo.

Berenjena en escabeche, venía con un par de rajas de tomate y hummus (quizá este primero, se nos quedó corto por tamaño).

De segundo perdimos todos los mismo, carrillera con puré de patatas. Estaba bastante rica.

De postre pedimos arroz con leche de coco, un pastel y un yogurt con mermelada (estaba la opción de pedir fruta).

En el menú entraba bebida, pan y postre.

Con respecto a la bebida se podía pedir agua, sidra y vino. Quisimos pedir las tres cosas, pero nos dijeron que o vino o sidra, en cambio vimos otras mesas a las que le habían servido ambas cosas.

Nos gustó el sitio por lo que comimos, pero sentimos que las personas que nos atendieron fueron algo bordes con nosotros.

El local tiene una decoración que está chula.

Si no recuerdo mal, no tienen terraza o si la tienen son dos mesitas pequeñas.

El baño no me gustó en cuanto a tamaño y...

Excellent place with very different character according to the time of the day. In the mornings, they have funky tortilla pintxos and decent coffee for a normal price in the area, around 2.5 eur. At lunch time, amazing daily menus with excellent food and reasonable wine for around 15 eur on weekdays. In the evenings, music and a good selection of beers. All in all, nice decoration...
