I think it would be great to add a vegetarian category too as I believe this restaurant has all of the potential to create awesome plant based main courses. I had a salad with fish and it came out to be very filling, because of the amount of fish and vegetables in it. The only thing that could be improved is a boiled egg on top, It made the dish look too simple, so swapping it for a poached egg for example would elevate the whole look of it as well as the taste, because the fish itself is quite dry. Other than that loved their dessert options, it has quite a few, and it tasted absolutely delicious. Also, the presentations were unique for each dish and pleasurable to look at. Overall, I think the restaurant can be quite pricey, especially for the tourists who are on a budget, and the quality/price ratio could be improved. Still, it was a great experience and the place is worth a visit.

2024 visit: Every time we visit Bilbao we make it our top priority to eat at EL Nido. If you are looking for HIGH QUALITY Spanish food accompanied with a fine wine and an exceptional service then EL Nido is the place. The owner was so attentive to us and met the dietary requirements of one of our party. We had the asparagus, chuleton croquets and meatballs, along with the a heavenly cheesecake for dessert. There are fish options also. The personal touch and thank you makes the visit more special every time. Hopefully we will get to Bilbao again soon. THANK YOU EL NIDO. 2021 visit: 110% recommended!! High quality food, sourced locally and the owner very knowledgeable and very attentive. Definitely will repeat!!…. We did this summer! Buenísima calidad del producto y un trato excepcional. Buena carta de vinos. Repetiremos segurísimo. Totalmente recomendable.

They went the extra mile to help us pull off a surprise birthday celebration, bringing out a cake with dazzling sparklers and creating a truly festive atmosphere. Every dish we tried, from the tender octopus, the tuna cheek to the mouthwatering steak, was absolutely amazing and impressed everyone at the table. This unforgettable dining experience became the highlight of our trip to Bilbao, and we all left with wonderful memories. I can't recommend this restaurant enough for its outstanding service and delicious cuisine.

2024 visit: Every time we visit Bilbao we make it our top priority to eat at EL Nido. If you are looking for HIGH QUALITY Spanish food accompanied with a fine wine and an exceptional service then EL Nido is the place. I would have put three stars because in the end the food wasn’t bad at all, or there wasn’t really something that went bad. But I really think that the overall punctuation of this restaurant is definitely unrealistic and could lead people to expect something exceptional that in my opinion it’s not. First things first, the food was good, but I repeat, nothing exceptional. The menu is classic and definitely overpriced. How can a sliced tomato cost 12-14€? I could justify this if you are selling me a super bio, d.o.p., local tomato served with the most delicious olive oil and salt the market could offer... but this is not the case. Just a regular tomato, regular “pimientos”, regular fries, regular (not Italian) burrata. So I really didn’t get why everything was so overpriced. The chuleton was also ok, but it was just as ok as you can find it in many other restaurants. The service was good, but nothing remarkable. The decoration, the ambient and the furniture (in my opinion) a little bit 90s and kitsch (but it’s just a personal opinion). I’ve had the sensation all the time that this restaurants wants to compete on a league that really doesn’t deserve. If you don’t mind spending 50-60€ for a regular dinner in a regular restaurant, it’s the good choice for you. But... I really think that for the same money you can have somewhere else a real experience, not just a “regular” and...

He dejado pasar el tiempo para templar los ánimos y no escribir desde el enfado para contar por qué el Nido ha perdido una cliente por el trato recibido. El 22 de junio acudí junto a mi familia para celebrar mi cumpleaños, pedimos algún entrante para compartir, creo recordar que eran unas croquetas y un steak tartar, y después un plato fuerte cada uno. En mi caso fueron “Kokotxas de bakalao con su pilpil” que es tal y como aparecen en la carta, cabe mencionar que cuando estuvimos comentando los platos previamente con la metre yo comenté que no queríamos ninguno que tuviese marisco y esto es importante.

Cuando vi en la carta las kokotxas al pilpil no dude en pedirlas porque es uno de mis platos favoritos. Pero cuando salió el plato enseguida pude ver que no eran kokotxas al pilpil sino en una especie de salsa muy diluída y una especie de montoncitos de algo color naranja que no supe identificar hasta que lo probé, porque ya en el primer bocado ya me di cuenta de que era una salsa de marisco. No eran kokotxas al pilpil.

Evidentemente se quedaron en el plato, cosa que no debió gustarle a la camarera cuando vino a retirarnos los platos, porque primero hizo una broma sugiriendo que no las había podido acabar por estar muy llena, pero cuando le dije que las había dejado porque no me había gustado y no era lo que yo esperaba, torció el gesto de una forma muy poco amable. Acto seguido se acercó la metre para saber qué había pasado y con toda mi educación le dije en un tono bastante bajito que no me había gustado porque yo esperaba unas kokotxas al pilpil y no lo eran, y además contenían algún tipo de salsa de marisco.

Ahí comenzó la situación desagradable en la que me hicieron sentir como si hubiese cometido una grave ofensa porque a pesar de que insistí varias veces en que no pasaba nada, ella no dejaba de insistir en que ellos hacían el pilpil así, que era una preparación especial de ellos sin aceite y con ese toque de txangurro y que siempre lo avisaba cuando alguien pedía ese plato.

Lo primero que voy a puntualizar es que eso no fue así, ninguno de los tres le oímos decir tal cosa, porque evidentemente nunca hubiese pedido ese plato. Y lo segundo es, que si fuese así, y su receta fuese propia y especial con txangurro como detalle original, estaría indicado en la carta con la leyenda de alérgenos igual que tienen otros platos de su carta que sí que indican crustaceos, moluscos etc.. pero no es así.

La verdad es que fueron unos minutos incómodos en los que yo no discutí ni trate de dar lecciones a nadie solo dije que aquello no era pilpil, porque el pilpil es lo que es, aceite emulsionado con la gelatina del pescado y el saborcito a ajo, que es lo que yo esperaba comer y disfrutar. Es que no hay más vuelta de hoja, y eso es incontestable por mucho que me argumenten que su pilpil no lleva aceite… ¡es que entonces entonces no es pilpil!

Y como la metre no dejaba de insistir con el tema de que su salsa era especial y que gustaba a todo el mundo (vale, le gustará a la gente pero NO ES PILPIL) yo volví a decirle que no se preocupase que no pasaba nada, pero ella seguía con sus explicaciones… (yo ya solo quería que nos marchásemos cuanto antes).

Acto seguido nos preguntó si queríamos postre y la verdad es que no nos apetecía nada así que pedí la cuenta. Nos la trajo rápidamente, casi lanzándola sobre la mesa, el ticket pelado sin platillo y con un gesto cargado de desdén… pagué la cuenta de 180€ (incluídas las supuestas kokotxas al pilpil) y nos fuimos con un mal cuerpo terrible, con la sensación de que me habían tratado mal solo por decir que su plato no me había gustado.

Ha pasado el tiempo y me reafirmo en que la calidad de un restaurante no solo viene dada por el nivel de su cocina, sino también por la elegancia y el trato de su gente. Y en este caso la soberbia y altivez tanto de una camarera como de la metre que no aceptaron una crítica, más que justificada, empañaron totalmente nuestra experiencia y recuerdo del lugar, al que por supuesto no...
