We drove nearly two hours to dine here after checking the Michelin Guide for restaurants open around 19:00 — which is quite unusual in this area. We arrived at around 19:10 and were told they weren’t open yet, and to return after 19:30, their official opening time.
As a young couple, we immediately felt the service was dismissive. The staff seemed laid-back and inattentive; no one mentioned or explained the specials, and when we placed our order, several items were unavailable and had to be substituted with others from the menu.
One dish stood out — the croqueta de choco en su tinta — which was very good, but it was supposed to be served with aioli. Instead, it was clearly just plain mayonnaise. Some items were a bit too oily too.
Nothing else we tried was particularly memorable. It was all decent, but standard — making the overall experience quite underwhelming for a Michelin-listed restaurant.
To make matters worse, at around 20:30, an older couple was seated a few tables away (we were the only other diners at the time), and they received noticeably better treatment. The specials were read to them, and the staff was far more attentive and welcoming — a stark contrast to our experience.
Finally, the cheesecake was disappointing. It looked nothing like the pictures: it was flat, the cheese flavor was overwhelmingly strong, and the accompanying ice cream and red berry sauce were not of medium or high quality.
Overall, this restaurant does not live up to Michelin Guide standards, and our visit felt disappointing from start to finish. 72€ for 2 people (with no wine and...
Read moreBased on tonight’s experience, the fact that this place ever made it into the Michelin guide is unfathomable. Yes, the food was okay - though Jerez is a town where food seems to be of a pretty high and consistent standard - but it was the service that was absolutely diabolical. To kick things off, providing a physical menu (as opposed to using their QR code) seemed to be a significant problem. And then the service experience seemed to deteriorate from there. We booked a table at 8pm and were one of only 4 tables dining outside at that time. It was in no way busy. During our dining experience, no-one was at all bothered to check in on us as our meal continued. And it wasn’t like the place was busy. The wine and water refills were very much provided by the vastly better “self service”. I can honestly say that I have not felt so unvalued as a diner at a restaurant in a LONG time. My suggestion would be that if the staff don’t want to actually make the experience at A Mar a positive one for diners that they find something else to do. Or that the restaurant management give them some training on how to treat people in a way that makes them actually enjoy their time at the restaurant. You can all do much better than visit this...
Read moreVery disappointing - we were shown to our table outside and then……..ignored for about 15 minutes. We then attracted some attention, only to be challenged as to whether we had booked. Having checked that we did indeed have a reservation, the waiter dropped a QR code on our table (for the purposes of choosing our food). When challenged as to whether an actual menu was available (which clearly it was as all the tables around us had menus) the waiter did produce a menu. We were then ignored for about a further 30 minutes, before being asked for our order. All in all a very disappointing start. Once they arrived, our oysters were very good, although the Arroz Marisco was over dry and very very salty. For a restaurant of this supposed quality (we were here for a special birthday and following a strong recommendation) both the service and the food were very disappointing. In our experience there are far better restaurants and...
