I'm having the menu del dia, a two-course Prix fixe meal, bread, beverage, and dessert for 14 euros. My first course is the tomato soup, pictured, called Salmorejo Cordobes. It's an Andalusian gazpacho with pieces of bacon on top. You might want to decide if you'll like tomato soup ice cold before ordering. I now know that I do not like Gazpacho at all, but that's no one's fault.
Then I had the steak and fries, pictured, called Entrecot de Lomo a la Parrilla. The steak came out medium rare although I specified Well Done to the waitress. The fries have an odd texture and flavor to them, like some type of potato-yuca hybrid. Ketchup provides a decent cover to the unusual-ness.
The steak is medium now and I can eat it. I don't know what type of cut this is but it's bizarre. It's as if the butcher just chose a random spot on a beef animal and cut across several areas, unsupervised, on his first day of work. This is by far the most zany cut of meet I've ever encountered. Gristle, fat, bone, and red meat are just seemingly spun around a spiral making it impossible to cut and difficult to eat.
Service was fairly spotty. My waitress spent a great deal of time socializing with the rest of the staff with her back to me, as shown.
The apple pie was fine, brought by one of the other staff since my waitress was deeply involved in a conversation.
I just cannot possibly recommend.
I'll...
Read moreI tried Alhambra some 10 years ago and loved their daily menu and their montadito/open sandwich. I came back and it is still super!
They have 2 separate restaurants next to each other now... and their menu is slightly different. I went to the one that didnt have the exact montadito I wanted, but I ordered the goat cheese one (5€) and it was also really good! (Huge, couldnt finish since it was too much and also a bit over sweet for me).
We also ordered 1 menu of the day for 14€, which includes bread, drink (soft drink/beer/sangria) and dessert (today tiramisu/cheesecake/torrijas - or coffee).
What I love of this place is that they also serve you a goood quality tapas when you sit down. In the past I got chicken wings and paella, today it was a serrano ham montadito, with good tasting ham.
The pisto with huevos (1st dish) was very tasty and fulfilling, loved it! The entrecote with salad (2nd dish) was also good, although lots of tendon hard to cut through. We ordered coffee because we couldnt handle any more sweetness after my goat cheese/blueberry/onion open-face sandwich.
Would come back again! Next time in this trip we will go to the other Alhambra next door so I can eat my pork sandwich again :p but both are great choices!
Hope they stay here for all my...
Read moreI want to start off this review with saying that this restaurant had the BEST pork I’ve ever eaten in my life. For this alone, this restaurant is a must-visit in Madrid!
We came to this restaurant our first day in Madrid, and we were looking for some delicious Spanish food to satisfy our cravings after a long plane trip. This place exceeded our expectations!! We walked in and were quickly seated, and the server was kind to give us his recommendations and take our orders quickly. We ordered the pork and fries, croquettes, lobster rice soup, and sliced Jamón ibérico with a side of bread and tomato-cream sauce. Every item was beyond delicious and was a great introduction to Spanish food! The croquettes were crispy on the outside and creamy inside, the lobster had a delicious savoury flavour, and the sliced cured ham was salty and delicious. The pork was beautifully tender without being chewy, and was seasoned perfectly. For dessert, we ordered the house-made cheesecake, which was also fantastic!
Overall, every item at this restaurant was delicious, and I think visiting here is a must-try!! The next time we are in Madrid, we will...
