Dog lovers in Madrid can dine in a restaurant that appreciates both their passion for canines and the desire for gourmet gastronomy. El Perro y la Galleta, “The Dog and the Cookie”, celebrates the owner’s terriers and a connection to a traditional Spanish cookie company. The menu features different dishes with a unique take on using cookies as an ingredient.

I had the pleasure of bringing my friend to El Perro y la Galleta for lunch one afternoon, where we were delighted with the service right from the moment we entered. The restaurant’s décor mixes cute with upscale, that feels welcoming and comfortable. The warm wood floors combined with tile, and the classic tableware creates a modern atmosphere, while the ode to dogs shines through art and wall sculptures.

We started with yucca fritters filled with braised beef cheeks, and the meat was tender while the starch was a great compliment. We really loved the eggplant coated in biscuit with Pomodoro sauce and Parmesan cheese. The first “cookie” themed dish we tried from the menu was a huge success, as it was a different take on classic eggplant parmigiana.

I moved onto a course of rice with mushrooms and wild asparagus. Fluffy, light, and earthy, this dish is always a favorite. He chose grilled squids with black rice, and also commented on the flavor of the rice and the perfectly cooked squid.

For a restaurant with “cookie” in its name, we knew we couldn’t skip dessert. I stayed the traditional Spanish course, opting for three chocolate cake with biscuit ice cream, while my friend ordered crème brulee with a biscuit base. Magnificent in all regards.

El Perro y la Galleta is a dog-friendly, contemporary gourmet spot with impeccable service and a great design. A...

I ordered Spanish breakfast: pan de chapata cristal, tortilla, and smashed tomato with salt and olive oil, coffee, and orange juice. The breakfast was ok but I've tried much much better tortillas; the tortilla was not fresh!!! but was ok. The coffee tasted good but was cold although I ordered "a very hot coffee". Some other customers from the other table got very disappointed with their order, returned it and left; I'd do the same if I was in the mood to look for some other places at the time.

Also, the table service was not good at all, only two waitresses for loads of people on a Saturday morning. We were missing spoon and salt to eat our breakfast and it literally took forever to just get the attention of the waitress to ask for them!

This restaurant has a nice menu and vibe but I definitely won't go there again. It is definitely expensive for what they offer: old food and a poor customer care. I had the same experience at el perro y la galleta Castelló although the restaurant was not crowded at all at the time...

This restaurant has extremely patchy service. After spending what seemed an eternity looking for a mediocre tapas bar or restaurant we found this place outside the Retiro Metro. We hadn't booked but they were quite accommodating. Their grasp of English was patchy but why would you expect a waiter to know multiple languages? The menu had to be downloaded via a QR code that could then be read in English. The food was nice as were the staff. Between us we had an amazing burger and pork tacos, two glasses of wine, a mojito, bread, coffee and a large whisky...all for €64. Whilst there I booked online for later in the week, so amazing was this little place! Thursday came around and we returned to this restaurant. However the cocky waiter could not find my booking so stuck us next to a door in the dark and said we had 80 minutes and then we had to go. As we had nowhere else booked we made the best of it but it was a poor end to a great day especially as we choose this for our last...
