La Trainera — Restaurant in Madrid

One of my biggest regrets is not coming back one more time before we left Madrid.

I came here about 13 years ago and I remember the crab being AMAZING. I was so glad I kept the business card for all these years and was able to find it again.

The red king crab.... omg. Mind blowing good. It's just as good as I remember. I love how they make a sauce with the crab butter/guts. Everything we ordered was really good but man.... that crab was one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life. It's so sweet and good. It's one of those things that you eat and the table gets quiet because everyone stopped talking. That good~

The manager or owner came by to say hi which I appreciate. You know it's a good restaurant when someone does this. I told him I visited 13 years ago and he was very happy I came back with my husband. I will definitely not wait over a decade to come here again. Hopefully next year...

Amazing fish and seafood, no doubts there. But the service was pretty awful. I went there with my parents today as they were visiting me in Madrid, the server knocked over my mum's wine glass all over the table, her phone and clothes were pretty soaked. This can happen anywhere and really isn't an issue, but what's no right is that he never apologized for it... He gave us a few napkins and left without saying a word. As her glass was now empty, we were expecting him to come back and refill it, it didn't happen. We had to ask for a top up and we were charged for both the glass that was spilled by the waiter and the top up... We complained and that the second glass was removed from the bill, but the fact that we had to ask for it really doesn't sit well. It is a shame because the food was lovely, but at this price point I don't think you can get away with such...

Well. I arrived yesterday without reservation. They put me in a room for the people who have no reservations (sort of a punishment!) . Then they forgot I exist as I was on my own. Then I went to call someone. They came. While waiting for my food, with my table in front of the kitchen - there were people screaming at one another. For the food: anchovies (they were slaty with olive oil almost frozen) oysters - they were good shrimps with garlic - ok Then: sea bass - very oily and bad presentation but ok.

Wine - Albariño - the worst I have ever had . I took one sip and no one even asked me why I did not drink it.

Maybe if you reserve the experience might be different and you would not be punished. Otherwise...
