Lateral Velázquez — Restaurant in Madrid

I had a pleasant experience dining here. My friend and I ordered the tortilla, which is the reason she insisted we go. To me, there was a sliiight fishy taste (I was allergic to seafood for most of my life) so I didn't appreciate the tortilla as much as she did, but I liked the texture.

I especially liked the patatas. I got a generous serving of potato wedges and the two sauces (bravas and alioli) were on the side. The alioli was particularly delightful. The patatas also went well with my glass of red wine. Everything on the menu was affordable which was surprising considering how beautiful and fancy the decor is.

As for COVID19-prevention, the menu can be viewed online when you scan a bar code. If I weren't there with a friend, I don't know if I would have been able to eat there since I didn't have data or WiFi. This restaurant stays open between the 4-7pm period that a lot of restaurants close their kitchen, which was a blessing to us as we had walked for miles that day and were tired, thirsty and hungry at a time when most restaurants were closed. The menu is a little limited, but the food was very good. Both my husband and I had a hamburger, I had the one with Brie and caramelized onions and it was amazing. We gave a 4 star rating only because the service was incredibly slow. They wait staff literally ignored the inside dining room where us and another table were sitting. When someone finally came to our table, I had to tell the waiter to go to the other table because they wanted more water. After six years away from my home town, this restaurant was the only bad experience I had visiting Spain during two weeks.

The "terraza" was full so we asked the waiter if there was room inside. He answered us that he didn´t know. One person in our party, made an unfortunate comment about how the service in other countries would have gone inside to find us a place and we started to leave to find another place not so crowded. But the waiter had heard the comment, and offended because we were leaving starting yelling in the middle of the terrace and among other clients. He was motioning aggressively and screaming confrontationally and upset like he was completely crazy. He didn’t stop until we were in a different block, I would say, 200 meters away.
