ENG AUTHENTIC KOREAN FOOD OPEN KITCHEN “FEEL LIKE HOME” SERVICE When I first came to this restaurant I got so touched by the flavours, the service and the brand story, so here I am, to drop some words, and kisses. You can find this lovely open kitchen inside of the Mercado Barceló, MMUM people will always offer you warm smiles and good service once you arrive, one might not know the korean gastronomy that much but with the professional staff here there is no need to google or choose the food blindly. Let’s talk about Kimbap, one of the top plates here, if you are after Asian food but want to have something light, THIS IS THE BEST CHOICE: Crunchy seaweed and nutritious mixed rice as the base, with various traditional ingredients, after shaping it, with a dip of homemade sauces you will understand what “Comfort Food” means. Another big star of the house: Korean Farm Fried Chicken, after watching the whole process, I can assure you that here mama uma people use the fresh farm chicken, get it marinated for 24 hours then double fried in crunchy tempura, look at the photos and tell me what you think, at least I am salivating now. “Feel like home” service, this is not a place where you just eat without making connections with people, actually here they always try to find a “bridge” to reach to those lovely clients, this “bridge” could be good food or amazing service, or interesting story telling, luckily, they have them all. :)
Read moreWhat an absolute disappointment. Nothing like this has ever happened to me before.
I booked yesterday for 3 people 24 hours in advance at The Fork for a special family celebration. Today we arrived at Mama Uma 20 minutes before the reservation, and ordered something to drink before eating. During these minutes, we already commented that the Korean girl who was cooking, was not wearing her mask at any time (on her chin), and while she was preparing the dumplings she was also eating a banana (hygiene ????). When it was time for our reservation, without finishing our drinks, the Spanish guy suddenly said that he had canceled all reservations at The Fork and that we had no reservation and that he could not serve us. When asked for an explanation, he tells us that they are canceling The Fork and that he doesn't have to give us any more explanations.
The outrageous thing was the arrogance with which he told us, he did not even apologize for the inconvenience and told us that he did not have to listen to our complaints. I will not go back in my life even if they give it to me as a gift and no matter how good the food is, which we could not taste, I recommend to those who want to go that they better go to another restaurant.
The couple of owners definitely do not know how to manage their business and much less treat customers. They are arrogant and rude. The Dominican waiter, on the other hand, is a charming and polite person. I predict a disaster for them in a short time.
Qué absoluta decepción. Nunca me había pasado nada igual.

Alright, where to begin… As a Korean living abroad, I’m always in search of decent Korean food. But since I moved to Madrid 3 years ago, the journey hasn’t been too satisfactory. I’ve been to most of the Korean restaurants in Madrid. I’ve been to the fancy korean bbq ones. I’ve been to the ones which have been in Madrid for many years feeding Korean expats, tourists and Madrileños. I’ve been to one of those trendy and Instagramable new Korean restaurants. Let me say without any hesitation that Mama Uma is definitely one of the best. We ordered bibimbap, fried chicken and two mandu (kimchi and prawn). Everything was just perfect and as delicious as you can have in Korea! Am I going to try Mama Uma again? Oh...
