Trattoria Popolare Fratelli Figurato — Restaurant in Madrid

What a treat. Fratelli Figurato Trattoria came highly recommended as, and I quote: "The best pizza place in all of Europe outside of Italy." Big praise from an Italian themselves, so the expectations where already in the clouds. Nonetheless, Fratelli Figurato Trattoria exceeded those expectations without even trying.

From the moment you walk down the steps into the restaurant, its clear that this is going to be an exciting experience. The clientele was diverse and excited, and the smell of the food was positively intoxicating. My friend and I made a reservation, and were met with enthusiasm by the host, who took us to our table with a pep in his step. Only a few moments later, we were greeted by our waitress, a friendly and skilled woman who made sure we understood what we were getting, and recommended we each get our own pizza - a wise recommendation indeed.

Our order placed, my friend and I began to talk of our excitement at trying this gem of Madrid - though we were shocked to find out conversation cut short by the delivery of our food! Two pizzas came out of that kitchen faster than either of us even thought possible, and yet the food was everything we could have hoped for and more. The margherita pizza was without a doubt the freshest, most well-made pizza I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. But more, it was genuinely eye-opening to taste the quality of this food.

Almost as soon as the food was delivered, it was gone. If I hadn't been rolling my eyes into the back of my head from the sheer joy of the flavor, I might have assumed I didn't even taste the food. I mean I actively had to stop myself from eating any faster than I was - I wanted to keep experiencing this incredibly mouth-watering flavor crested by the talented chefs in the kitchen. When the last bite was gone, I was genuinely sad. How could it be gone so fast? How could I have eaten so quickly?

Fratelli Figurato MUST be on your list of places to visit en Madrid. You cannot pass uo this incredible gastronomic experience. The best pizza place in all of Europe outside of Italy? Absolutamente. Without a shadow of a doubt. I am shook. I am lost. I am found in the glory that is the pizza at Fratelli Figurato Trattoria, and I hope you will be too.

I’ve been to those location 3 times but I’m not sure I’d go back after my last visit…

The service NEEDS to be improved. There’s a 1 hour 30min limit on the table, but the service needs to be more attentive if this is the case. Our waiter (young guy, dark hair and glasses) was pressuring us to order, but then the wait for the food was wayyy too long for a place that has a time limit. We finished our drinks before the food, but at no point did he ask if we wanted more (and then forgot our order when we did order more).

Although we ordered just a main course each, they came out at different times, and then, while we were finishing, the waiter came over to ask us if everything was ok, at which point we ordered another drink (again) and he told us there’s no time because we only had 10 minutes left on the table 🤷🏼‍♀️ he then proceeded to bring the bill while one of the party was in the bathroom, and make us pay there and then - this isn’t the done thing in Spain and considered rude.

The food is great. Good quality and fresh, but I would say (with the exception of the pizzas) the pasta portions are a bit lacking given that they’re intended as mains-not a pasta course-and there’s absolutely no time to enjoy the antipasti before, given the time limit on the table.

This place is super popular and always packed, and on the weekend, there’s a constant stream of people coming in asking for a table that they clearly don’t have, which is quite disruptive if you’re sat near the entrance- as well as delivery pickups.

All in all, they need to do something about the service if they want to do multiple covers on a table in a night- or find a way to increase table spend by offering a broader menu or investing in...

I can confidently say that it offers the best pizza not only in Madrid but also in all of Spain.

The highlight of my dining experience was undoubtedly the Diavolla pizza. The combination of the spicy chorizo de Leon, black olives, parmesan cheese, and perfectly baked crust created a symphony of flavors that left me craving for more.

One thing to note is that Fratelli Figurato Trattoria is always bustling with customers, so it's essential to make a reservation a couple of days in advance. The popularity of this place speaks volumes about the incredible dining experience it offers. However, I assure you that the wait is absolutely worth it.
