Tips for first-time tourists: There are no english menus nor any english speaking servers or deli workers. at least the ones we asked. We just knew the very basics and had google translate so we were fine but be prepared.

The main floor is a bar and deli counter service for quick bites and purchases. They DO have sit down with menus on the 2nd and (for parties of 5+) 3rd floors! You have to direct yourself there as there's not really anyone at the front to guide you.

We ordered fountain sized (see photo) hams which tasted awesome (duroc was my favorite), the gambas al ajillo, and the tbone steak. All of it was so good!

Our server was pretty grumpy and rude though, which felt unwelcoming as we were scrambling with translation. He grumpily rushed us with ordering and explained that it was getting late (although it was only 11pm with their 1am closing time). We later saw him seat another table 20 minutes later without any rush in ordering so not sure what the deal was. Additionally, he kept clearing plates with some food left and as we were eating from them lol. For one of the times, he took my plate as I was still holding my food in my hand ?? I was too amusedly shocked to be mad.

Other than that server, it was yummy and such a unique atmosphere. We got some packaged jamon afterwards...

I chose not the cheapest jamon to buy (76€ kg), the seller couldn't speak English and was annoined with me buying so little (100g). When I refused to buy more (I couldn't even if I wanted, because I don't speak Spanish and his English-speaking colleague went away), he cut me the worst parts of the jamon with much fat, he cut them thick and carelessly. I saw his colleague before cutting away these fat pieces from the same leg for Spanich-speaking customers. When I told him that I want normal meat, he was very rude and practically laughed at me. I paid, but I was very upset, then I opened the package and understood that I have to throw away the half. I buy jamon on a regular basis and I know, how it has to be. So I went back and asked the English-speaking colleague if this is normal. I had to cry, because this service is the opposite of friendly. He took my meat away and he apparently told the first one to give me money back and the first one threw them to me very rude. So the conclusion: if you are a tourist, don't expect a good service and you will be foolished and pay for bad quality. Yes, I got my money back, but the...

Sitio mítico del centro de Madrid. Las croquetas son una pasada, la morcilla excelente y el jamón muy rico. El queso también nos gustó mucho. De precio, no es lo más asequible, pero merece la pena. Eso sí, en horas concretas, se llena.

Museo del Jamon is a charcuterie and local eatery with several branches spread around Madrid including this branch on Calle Mayor. This is a tourist friendly place to stop and see various meats, including several varieties of Iberian ham being cut and sold behind the counter. There is also a traditional bar setup where you can buy plates of ham, bocadillo (small sandwiches) with Iberian ham, salami or chorizo. If you visit in the morning, you can have affordable desayuno (breakfast) here, including eggs, bacon, orange juice and coffee. We found this to be an affordable, enjoyable and timely breakfast stop when we visited recently. Everything is quite casual, menus include English and bar staff are patient, helpful and very friendly, making this a convenient place if you want to visit a charcuterie shop and perhaps try some local Iberian ham or other cold cuts during your visit to Madrid.
