My wife had spent a fair amount of time wandering around Palma and sat down at the outside Terrace of Café Placa in the Placa de Santa Eulalia. The servers were extremely rude to us! When we finally got someone stop and take our order (they weren’t really busy during this time), she reluctantly brought us our beers. Knowing that sometimes restaurants in Spain stop serving certain dishes later in the afternoon, I asked (in Spanish) if the Empanadillas were still available. She said no, and also the Croquetas were not available, but the whole menu, except those items were available. We waited a reasonable amount of time (my wife and I are experienced travelers and I lived in Europe for several years) for the server to come back to take our order. When no server came out to take our order, I went in the bar and asked if another dish was available (again, in Spanish - Bocadilla de Lomo Sobresada). Since our server was eating at the time, I asked the other server, and she said, “No, those are not available.” I then said (in Spanish) that the other server, and motioned toward our server who was eating, said that everything on the menu was available except the Empanadillas and Croquetas. Our server, who was eating, said, “Oh, yeah, those are not available either.” I really got the distinct impression that they do not appreciate tourists at this restaurant. I then said we would like two other Bocadillas. She responded, “No, you can only have one.” Very reminiscent of the episode Seinfeld where the guy says, “No soup for you!” If you are a tourist, stay away from this restaurant! Or, if you enjoy people being rude to you and ignoring you, you will...
Read moreWe visited in November 2024, and found this place a bit off the beaten track. It was perfect because I wasn't looking for something touristy. I don't speak Spanish, but really, do you need to these days, when you have a cell phone that doubles as a translator in your pocket?
The food was wonderful, the coffee perfect, the churros... well, you don't go to Spain and not have churros right? Excellent churros served with cup of warm chocolate to dip them in.
Granted it was November so no issue with crowds. Prices were extremely reasonable.
To be honest, I really enjoy traveling to places where English isn't spoken everywhere. Where you have to actually figure things out and learn how things work. My wife a bit less so, but if she's with me, it's...
Read moreWhile wondering around Palma we decided to stop somewhere for some food & something to drink. After sitting at our table for around 10 minutes & no one coming over to ask us what we’d like to drink - I went over to the bar/where the staff were to ask if we could order and they told me my order had to be taken at the table. I went back to the table which is where I ordered 2 drinks - which arrived quickly but we then proceeded to wait for over 20 minutes expecting someone to come over and take our food order - nothing. The staff were all hidden inside around the coffee/bar area chatting or eating. After finishing our drinks we decided to just pay and leave. Absolutely horrendous service - expect to wait for a long time to even be...
