Restaurante Caballito de Mar — Restaurant in Palma

Not recommended. Expensive. Poor service, communication and mediocre food for the price. Our waiter directed us to the smoking area (entirely enclosed with blinds so technically and healthwise still an indoor area) even though we had a five year old child with us. We were not given the option to sit in the non-smoking area and we were not made aware it was the smoking area. When we were ready to order from the menu another waiter brought out a tray of whole raw fish to upsell to us and proceeded to put his hands all over the fish and pull them out of the tray. This was a turn off. He was pushy and we felt pressured to order the fish he'd just had his hands on even though we were ready with our own selection from the menu. While we were waiting for our food it started to rain and water was leaking through the blinds flooding under our table so we were eventually moved but still within the smoking area. Our food arrived (nothing spectacular) but when another customer (sitting right behind us, half a metre away) lit up a cigarette while we were eating we were still not given the option to sit in the non smoking area. Due to the close proximity of the smoke in the enclosed area we could not finish our meals. The waiter was unhelpful and couldnt care less when we complained and it wasn't until after our meals were taken away and I asked to see the manager that I was notified of a non smoking area within the building (tucked away in the dark insides). We went to this restaurant following a recommendation from the hotel.

I don't know if this is something common in Mallorca, since people don't smoke too much there, but we waited 15 minutes or more for an ashtray, after we had asked the waiter if it's allowed to smoke on the terrace and his answer was that he was not sure about it and he will ask around.

Afterwards, we waited for the menu at least 15 minutes, and for the food order at least 30 minutes, every time signaling a different waiter that we want to order or to have the menu explained. After a waiter finally took our order and moving on from the difficulties we had understanding each other in English (the bit of Spanish helped a lot, at least to know what we order).

The paella cierra for two we had ordered was tasty, hot, but all in all, this was a very disappointing experience, since we felt like we had to wait forever to get someone to talk...

Very deceptive practices. They tried to massively overcharge us. We were 5 people. We ordered Lubina for 3 and Paella for 2. They tried to charge us 120eur for 1 Lubina. In the nicest beach club in Mallorca with wouldn't cost more than 60 EUR (look at the menu of Assaona or Mahres). They said that it was "special" wild Lubina. the staff seem to treat it as a game how much they can rip you off and get away with it. The ridiculous thing was that they said it would be the same price in all restaurants nearby. So we called the restaurant across the road and they said they would charge 60. I don't mind paying for good food and service but this place was a joke. They obviously rely on people never going back. Food was very average but the price was ridiculous and the staff rude. Avoid this place like the plague as there are much better...
