Delhi Darbar — Restaurant in Puerto de la Cruz

My wife and I came here based on the amazing reviews, and I was interested to see how it would compare to a British Indian restaurant.

Service and decor were good - it's clear that they've been in business a while and know what they're doing. Food came in good portions, was well-priced and (most importantly) tasted good. The menu clearly labelled the allergens for each dish, making it easy to select vegan dishes.

The reason for dropping a star? We asked for "medium spice" but feel like the food was spicier than it should have been - at least by our definition. Unfortunately, for one of us, it was too spicy to eat, leaving the other to try and finish the meal for 2. I did ask the staff about this, and they were adamant that this was medium spice. Nothing to cry about too much - these things happen; in just pointing it out in the review for awareness.

By far the worst Indian food I had in my life. We went to eat there because of the good reviews and I seriously can't get my head around how this restaurant got that many good reviews. The Shahi Paneer was indistinguishable taste wise, it just tasted like Paneer in sugary red sauce with odd spices creating the weirdest sensation on my palate. The mushroom rice had the strongest aftertones of thyme, a spice I never before found in Indian rice and that tasted really disturbing as a combination. At the same time the rice and Shahi Paneer were so bland, it's hard to put it in words. Service staff were slightly better than the food quality, but if the food wouldn't have been so incredibly bad the service staff would have been another low light. 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 EXCELLENT!!! We visited for the 1st time on the evening of Wednesday 27th March. (Rostron x 4) We will definitely be returning! It was probably one of the best Indian meals we have ever had. Everything was amazing. The food was simply delicious! Excellent starters. (The chicken tikka was so tender and melted in your mouth.) The main meals were beautifully presented and tasted fantastic. (The prawn sizzler was incredible!!!) Lots of choice available too. The whole experience was absolutely superb.
