Having just proposed to my GF this was our first stop after her saying yes I wanted to take her to a nice restaurant. We got there the view from the restaurant is beautiful, and that’s where it ended, after giving us the menu the waiter didn’t return for a while at least 10 mins, we ordered one of the tasting menus which was €100 each. Being a chef this high price for food is a normality for me. The canapés came and it was 2 pieces of peeled tomatoes with a tiny bit of pesto drizzled on top very little effort but I was willing to be patient to see the first course. The foie gras was ok small piece with a few croutons and fruit on top. The next course my fiancé had the gazpacho because she is pregnant in which she found a shard of metal. Luckily after chewing for a while she realised something was wrong and spat it out. Then the manager came over looked at the plate with out an apology took it away to the kitchen the chef appeared with the manager and they were apologetic and offered to replace with some prawns which were tasty but very difficult to eat unless you were going to eat the shell. Then the king crab salad which I didn’t really know if there was actually any king crab in it but the prawns were full of faeces and it tastes like a potatoes salad, I asked the waiter to show the chef and pointed out the prawns he asked what was wrong and I said it’s not been cleaned he said that’s how shrimp are and I said I’m a chef I know what shrimp are, he then followed up with have you worked with shrimp before! For the first time in my life I was shocked and had to tell him that I worked at a three Michelin star restaurant and that of course I have worked with shrimp before. He did not inform the chef. The seabass was actually good with good flavour and well cooked which was the first course I enjoyed. The suckling pig came which was also good but at this point we were both in a foul mood and just wanted to leave the dessert then followed but the pre dessert did not come only after we had almost finished eating the dessert the waiter put the pre dessert on the table at the same time as we were eating and quickly scampered off! My girlfriend’s wine glass had a large chip in the glass luckily she was drinking through a straw. When the bill came expecting to see some sort of compensation the bill came with no discount at all. Again having to tell the manager that this was completely unacceptable and that they had ruined what was supposed to be to be a very special night for us and then tried to ask us to come back the next day, he returned with a miserable 20% discount. We left with a sour tastes in our mouths and paid €200 for the over...
Read moreDifficult experience to review. A huge difference between expectation and delivery. Abades has a great location and we paid extra for riverside seats. Brilliant location...beautiful city ..... premium restaurant...what could possibly go wrong?...... we chose a 7 course taster menu with gourmet wine pairing....we didn't expect to like every course or wine...but most of them will be good...surely.?.....sadly most courses and wines didn't hit the mark. The wines were sherry based...but after mentioning these were not hitting the spot the wines were changed...however... the food was most disappointing....I expected a taster menu to be edgy.... but every course felt like emperors clothes.....we should like it because its expensive but every course missed the mark except for the suckling pig....the 1st course was duck parfait that looked and tasted like raw butter...the second course was a seafood salad vinegarette... that all we could taste was vingear....the third course was egg and tuna...but the enduring taste was cheap scrambled egg....4th course was sea bass that was ok...5th course was suckling pork the only meal we liked followed by peach sorbet and a coffee pudding. Most courses were not eaten. The staff did not acknowledge thus and continued each course robotically without any interaction. We did notice the staff focused on the premium tables of which we were one. Most disappointing of all is when we asked for the bill and it was produced without any request for feedback. We don't believe I doing bad online reviews without telling the restaurant. So we did and to the credit of the restaurant the young lady at reception listened to our feedback and took it all on board. However I must tell it as it is. I'm not poor but I value value for money. And food at this price must deliver and for me it didn't tonight. Make sure you know what to expect and as advised tell the establishment straight away if your expectations are not being met. Abades I am sure will deal with it and can only improve with feedback. As I said difficult to review as taste is subjective...but service isn't and the staff could have done more to see that we were not happy and addressed it. I'm glad no one asked for a tip because this would have got a more...
Read moreWe had made a reservation well in advance, including an upgrade to a front-row table. Upon arrival, we were informed that no tables were available, and despite our timely arrival, we waited over 35 minutes to be seated. The reception area felt rather chaotic, with guests frequently wandering into the dining space, adding to the sense of disorganization.
When we were finally seated — at a different table than reserved — I no longer minded, hoping the rest of the experience would make up for the confusion. Our server initially took our order promptly, and the appetizers arrived in good time. However, from that moment, our waitress seemed to vanish. She continued to serve neighboring tables multiple courses and drinks, yet never once checked on us.
Over 45 minutes passed between our appetizers being cleared and the arrival of our main courses. I eventually asked another waiter to cancel my dish, having entirely lost my appetite, but the food appeared moments later. My red shrimp, though perfectly cooked, was only lukewarm by then.
By the time our mains arrived, our water glasses were empty, and despite several attempts to get our waitress’s attention, her visits to our table were fleeting at best. After a 2.5-hour lunch marked by frustration rather than enjoyment, we decided against ordering coffee or dessert.
When settling the bill, only the hostess at the entrance took the time to ask whether everything had been satisfactory — the sole expression of genuine attentiveness throughout our visit.
In fairness, a few elements stood out: the olive oil was exceptional, the cold soup refreshing, the complimentary starter intriguing, and both the tomato salad and bread plate quite good. The rice side, however, was forgettable and not worth ordering.
All in all, if I had the choice again, I wouldn’t return. Seville offers too many excellent dining options that pair great food with attentive service — something this experience...
