I really don't understand the bad reviews, and I'm actually going to explain how to order in what it's probably one the last authentic Spanish Andalusian restaurants in Seville. Don't expect a fancy meal: You're here for the quality of the ingredients, the view, the cheap prices and the experience of going to a proper Spanish traditional restaurant which is now becoming quite rare with loads of tourist traps around. This restaurant has been opened for nearly a century, so all locals know it. Its a beautiful restaurant, with high-quality ingredients and the bad reviews are just ignorant. Given it's long-standing reputation in the city, you are also not going to get ripped-off, but make sure you ask for the price before. They accept credit cards.
Number 1: They don't have a drinks menu, so just ask. If you want wines you should ask which wines you recommend. They have probably the best Sangría in Seville, very strong and high-quality for the best price. Order 'Jarra de Sangría'. If you want a strong drink, order the traditional Andalusian mixer called 'Rebujito'
Number 2: They don't generally have a written menu, so ask the waiter to take you to the specials board (which are quite a lot), take a picture and translate using your smartphone if necessary. I nonetheless reccomend going to this place once you've been to other restaurants in Seville and you know more or less what to expect food-wise. If you don't know what to order I reccomend the Tomato salad with local beef tomatoes (ensalada de tomate), fried mini octopus (puntillitas), special Cádiz caught prawns (gambas de Cádiz), marinated sharkfish (cazón adobado), garlic mushrooms (setas). Traditional salad (ensalada mixta) or patatas bravas to accompany dishes. Other specials are the fried red mullets (salmonetes) and the lightly-battered small sole fishes (acedías) caught in the Mediterranean sea and a traditional dish for centuries here. I believe its one of the only few restaurants offering acedías in Seville.
Order sauce (Ali oli) if required.
Number 3: If there's a lot of people (specially late), expect a long wait. Restaurant is open at 20:30 so you can go early and enjoy the sunset.
Number 4: Enjoy the...
Read moreI would give this place zero stars or even negative stars if I could. I am completely okay with a non-tourist, non-English speaking establishment, but a disdain for tourists and/or racism is something that I will not tolerate. My mother, sister, and I (we are Korean-American) tried to eat lunch here. We waited at the entryway to be seated, and three servers saw us/made eye-contact and ignored us. Finally my mother tapped one on the shoulder and asked if we could sit anywhere, to which the lady said sure. We sat down, and we waited for someone to come help. We watched them seat and help two other tables, and they had not even give us menus. I went to the front to grab some menus, and we decided to give them another chance to help us before the groups that came in after us. They continued to help the people that came in after us, so we finally decided to leave. It is hurtful and despicable when establishments blatantly display their disdain for tourists and racism. I understand tourists and people from various countries may not be pleasant to encounter, but each person should be judged on an individual basis rather than ignored without being given a chance. I do not recommend this...
Read moreExtremely basic food which I'd consider over priced for what it was. I genuinely think I'd have a better crack at making it myself. Sangria used canned fruits instead of fresh which we should've taken as an omen for the remainder of the experience. Service was the bare minimum but he did smile from time to time. We ordered a starter and two mains and my partner's main arrived fairly later after mine (not a massive deal but must be noted). Unsure about the view because seats were all taken but I'm sure it was nice if you sat in the right place (we didn't haha). I'd highly recommend researching the options along the riverfront and booking early instead of turning up and hoping for the best yet receiving a below mediocre experience. Remember reviews are only useful if the consensus is uniform i.e very good or very bad overall, mixed reviews suggest it isn't worth the risk. You may go there and enjoy yourself and my review would be obsolete or, you could go there and have a similar experience to me. Is it worth the risk? That's up to...
