Tasty vegan café/ restaurant in a market hall. I'm not a huge fan of taking meat/egg containing recipes and just switching animal products to vegan substitute in most cases. I think an actual vegan place could and should concentrate on vegetables instead of trying to replicate an animal product, especially if its about looks and names. You don't need a concoction of salt, isolated protein, liquid smoke and spices, pressed in a form and given the label bacon to make a BLT-type sandwich work when you can just smoke some mushrooms. And this is not some burger place where you go with your friends and are happy that the cook has some beyond meat patties in a freezer somewhere so you can all go to the same place but an actually vegan place. Still, even if I wouldn't order for example their "fried egg" (some white stuff cooked to settle with a ladle of some very yellow "runny yolk" stuff on top that tasted a little of kala namak but mostly seemed to be there for the looks) in itself, the spanish potato tortilla under that "fried egg" was extremely good and the dish in total was tasty. I'm already vegan so maybe a place with very tasty food where the menu reads so much like it isn't vegan (e.g. egg, cheese, sausage, bacon, mayonaise) that there are numerous signs reassuring you it is, does convince someone else to give a plant based diet a chance. But for me even if the food is good, in my opinon it could do better...
Read moreI'll start with the main food, I had the avo smash and husband had a burger. Burger was good, avo smash was good. The salad dressing reminded me of macdonalds burgers lol so I only ate a bit and husband finished. 4 stars as was simple and not mind blowing but absolutely fills a hole. Staff were very nice too.
NOW LETS TALK BAKERY. OMG. We are from London, UK, so we have a LOT of choice here. But I swear, I am yet to discover a vegan bakery like Veganitessen's. The choice is incredible and everything we ate was delicious. On our first visit I took away the cream filled bollitta, coconut macaroon, one of each chocolate truffle, two of the hueva de pascoa. Holy smokes everything was delicious. I was especially impressed with the cream in the bollitto as quite often vegan cream can miss the mark, but it was really good. The hueva de pascoa filled with dulcet de leche were so good I wish I could have brought them home.
On our last morning we had the plain croissants and a giant cinnamon roll which were excellent too. I massively regret that we didn't make it back as we had intended, due to the closing time we thought we would miss it but I wish we had tried as there were more items I wanted to try and I wanted to buy some more chocolate too (they stock vivani). If we ever come back to Seville, this will be...
Read moreI’ve been coming to Veganitessen (inside Mercado del Arenal / Arenal Market) since my first time in Seville in 2013 and, now that I’m a full-time resident, I’m happy to say my boyfriend and I are regulars here. GO. FOR. THE. VEGAN. TAPAS. My favorite meal in the city is the mextilla (a vegan tortilla de patatas, i.e. potato omelette, with guacamole and tomato salsa), gazpacho, and the chocolate orange cake (tarta de chocolate y naranja). Also try the ensaladilla (potato salad), empanadas, salmorejo (creamy cold tomato soup), garbanzos (with rice and Moroccan spices served in a tajine). Most dishes come with a small salad on the plate. Everything is homemade, 100% vegan, and mostly organic (bio). I bring my own to-go containers because I always want to order more than I can eat in one sitting. Yes, they have traditional Spanish vegetable salads, seitan-based dishes, burgers, nachos, and hot dogs, too ... but their tapas (and wheat-based cakes) are riquísimo!!!! This is one of the best places I’ve found in Spain for traditional Spanish and 100% vegan food. Kind staff, socially-inclusive site, excellent prices. They have English menus and the staff speaks some English if you are...
