HOMMUS FALAFEL RESTAURANTE ÁRABE EL CARMEN — Restaurant in Valencia

I’m typically the kind of person who, if I don’t like a place, simply walks out and never returns. But this experience was such a blatant scam that I had to break my usual habit and leave a review. In one word: disastrous.

We were the first to arrive, the restaurant was completely empty, which in hindsight should’ve been a red flag. Not long after, two families came in and were immediately served while we were still waiting. Unbelievable.

We ordered two dishes, each priced at €44: chicken and kofta. The kofta was severely undercooked, despite the fact that there were only three tables occupied, including ours. The waitress was far from friendly and seemed completely disinterested, as if she didn’t want to be there. If that’s the case, perhaps hospitality isn’t the right industry for you.

When I addressed the issue of the raw meat, she took the plate without saying a word. It was returned burnt on the outside but still raw on the inside quite a feat, honestly. At that point, we just left the food untouched and walked out €108 poorer.

Hidden little gem in the center of Valencia. I have been many times to the Middle East for work, and have always loved Levant food. What a great unexpected surprise it was finding this place with authentic middle eastern delicacies . We had the plate to share for two, that included “possibly” the best falafel I’ve had (certainly in top-3), and delicious hummus, babaganoush, and fantastically tasty meat kafta (not too salty though) and kiba/kibbeh. Very friendly attentive service and a clean classy welcoming ambiente at a reasonable price (spent 30 euros per person including a cocktail and other drinks, appetizer and some dessert) rounds up the place. We found this place after not getting into La Lola because we didn't have a reservation and I'm so glad we did. The food is delicious, fresh, and everything we ate was fantastic. We returned again the next day for take away because we were so happy the first time. The second time was just as good. The owner and staff are so inspiring and this is a place that really has everything dialed. Amazing food, great service, and the culture that the owner creates within the staff is fun to watch.
