The Old Railway — Restaurant in Galle

I do believe people have had good experiences there according to other reviews, but hell, I'm not really sure where I did set foot. I'm unsure if the waiter didn't speak any English or was just acting very very strange. After I sat he told me "only juice" without really giving me any more context, so I answered "no food?" just to be sure I didn't misunderstand. A confused answer was given to me, so I asked again: "food or no food?". This time the answer was "no food, only burgers". Aha? Burgers being the only thing on the menu, things were getting a bit interesting, but hey, everybody can make mistakes or be uncertain. So I sat, and ordered a supposedly available dish (almost everything is priced over 1000 Rs by the way). 10 min later he comes back, this time telling me "sorry no food, cook not feeling well".

I was the only person in the café, after this surreal experience I know why. I saw people leaving before me, probably for the same reason, so it would have been easier to save my time and be clear about the situation.

This is an absolutely beautiful location. We went in to have a quick coffee, and found a cozy upstairs cafė with what is easily the best chocolate cake I can remember having: dark and juicy like a Brownie, with an added aroma of refreshing orange. The iced coffee was just right, and we had a friendly chat with the people operating the store on the ground floor and the cafė upstairs. They also serve an interesting selection of fusion food - unfortunately it was just too hot to have a quick lunch. Go there - it's definitely worth the short trip outside...

I'm not sure what's going on but the actual coffee shop has been closed since I arrived in Galle at the beginning of April and I have walked by several times in an attempt to check it out. The clothing shop is open with a lot of cute stuff (albeit the items are very expensive). There has just been a small sign out front that says the coffee shop is closed today.
