Café gråmunken — Restaurant in Stockholm

Many problems with this. AVOID so the prices are not written to each product but they are written on a small menu sitting at the counter hidden. Second you think you buy a specific size of cake but its smaller because of the way the have designed. The value for money is low low low. I understood that is a touristic but even for that they are super well overpriced - is not like they have super quality or fancy stuff, staff or atmosphere - its just rip off - don't get me wrong I am for profit and optimize it but the way this is done is not ethical or valuable. And the clients must pay for the toilet even if they buy undervalued super expensive food and drinks- this is so retarded from business point of view. I understand also the mentality if the client should put questions also before but this it really feels like stealing. When I asked for prices the guy throw the hidden plastic menu in my face with arrogance.

The funny part was that while I was researching for this coffee shop for reviews, being in the caffe, after I was upset - a swedish guy starting screaming and almost fighting with the owner regarding the prices, the fact they don't display and all the stuff around for the crazy places and bad attitudine of the stuff. Both started to say curses to each other - not nice from both sides but still if you are the owner of the business just call the police or something if you don't like a customer - he said f"""" you to the customer (the customer isn't too nice also but hey its the customer and based on all these reviews he has right to be upset)

PS: I live in Copenhagen which is more expensive than stockholm and the prices from here are over the roof compared with the caffees city center of Copenhagen. This is definitely a trap with low...

Bought a nutella ball, a chai latte and "3 swedish pancakes". The total summed up to 208 sek, which can be a shock when the price tags aren't displayed.

The nutella ball tasted nothing like nutella, but instead tasted like a dry chocolate ball with reduced sugar. This ball costs 50 sek, and I would never consider my purchase worth it.

The chai latte was alright, but kind of small considering it costs 59 sek. It pales in comparison with the chai lattes you can get at Espresso House, in both taste and size.

The 3 swedish pancakes, toped with flour sugar and nutella, were nothing better or worse than average. Sweet but a bit dry. Would definitely eat again, but with a price tag of 99 sek it suddenly isn't as appealing.

Finally the interior is unique, but the staff is very distant and not friendly at all, even though we just payed 208 sek for something a 12 year old could have done at home. The background music of the café consisted (as of new years eve 2016) of mediocre at best covers of popular songs, which obviously is a mater of taste. The real deal breaker is that the background music is played from a spotify account that isn't premium, which means ads are played every now and then.

Jag har hört lite om Grå Munken och enligt andra recensioner är det mixade känslor. För min del tycker jag personligen att cafet är mysigt men trångt. Har man barnvagn blir det lätt trångt och rush hour tiderna samlas det många människor och det blir svårt att ta sig fram speciellt vid kassan.

Själva inredningen är det inget speciellt på, mysigt och lite modernt. Man får lite sköna vibbar, lite nostalgi över känslan.

Caféet är väldigt centralt i gamla stan och man kan också sitta ute vilket är bra. Dock inte så bra om man är flera personer då det blir svårt att hålla ögonkontakt med sitt sällskap i och med att alla sitter på samma sida bredvid varandra på en rak linje.

Är det för varmt är det bara att gå ned till källaren där det ser väldigt coolt och mysigt ut. Samtidigt får man svalka sig lite. Lite medeltids känsla över det, vilket det uppskattas.

Själva dryckerna eller maten är det absolut inget speciellt på ärligt talat. Det smakar bra visserligen men det har inga variationer så som t.ex Espresso House eller andra stora cafe kedjorna. Detta är mer ett lokalt cafe på gamla stan som råkar ligga på en en bra gata där massa människor strömmar hit och ditt.

Priserna är inte kloka, hur kan en våffla eller chai latte kosta 70kr?!? Ett helt vanligt glas som är mellanstor och inget speciellt med smaken kostar så mycket! Det är ett rån men.. men. Det strömmar massa människor förbi ink massa turister och då kan de sätta höga priser pga läget.

Personalen är det inget fel på men oftast ser de ut att vara riktigt trötta och som om de inte ville vara där alls utan drömmer sig bort någon annanstans.

Slutsats: Har du fikat överallt i Stockholm utom här och vill testa något nytt? Sure, go for it. Dock lär du inte missa något ang menyn förutom kanske källaren som är det häftiga. Vill du annars fika på ett centralt läge där du ser många människor och inte har långt till andra centrala delar av Stockholm så är detta bra då den går raka vägen genom Gamla stan till Slussen etc.

Priserna är som överallt på det centrala läget i gamla stan med de dyra priserna. Dock kunde de ha normala priser under 70kr för ett chai latte/ kaffe efter sommaren eller på vissa kaffe drycker. Jag förstår att de gör det pga det centrala läget & turisterna på sommaren. Annars vore en nedsänkning efter sommaren inte vara helt fel.

Irriterande är att man måste betala för toaletten, men det är förståeligt ifall någon inte fikar där och bara vill använda toaletten. 10kr är ändå inte mycket men många turister tycker att det är konstigt. Dock måste även kunderna betala ibland, detta sker oftast på sommaren.

Rekommenderar jag caféet? Inte riktigt, men har du vägarna förbi och orkar inte ta någon stor kedja eller annat så Why not? Dock finns det ett café runt hörnan som är mycket...
