Husband and I stayed at this lovely hotel – we apparently had the best room, 235 (see photos) and it exceeded expectations.|It was sumptuously appointed, with high ceilings, and decor, furniture and fabrics all reflecting a bygone era of splendour. The queen bed was very comfortable, the bathroom spacious – with a full-size tub and a 2-person walk in shower, double sinks and heated floors, a couch at the foot of the bed and a separate seating area by the windows, 2 charming little desks with chairs served as bedside tables, it had 2 closets and ample storage space for both clothing and other “stuff”, and provided entrance hooks for the hotel umbrella and shoehorn, and our backpacks. They also provided face cloths – often absent in European hotels. There was excellent lighting and ample electrical outlets. ||The breakfast area and dining room are charming, and the breakfast provided was more than adequate.||The hotel‘s location is exceptional, with the King’s Garden adjacent, IKEA around the corner, a tram stop about 50m away on the same street, the National Museum a 10 minute walk, and the Gamla Stan 12 minutes away by foot. It is situated in the heart of the city, but surprisingly quiet at night. One night there was a music concert in the Kings Garden and we were warned about possible noise and provided details in a letter — a thoughtful touch.||The front of house staff were courteous and professional, but lacked warmth. The exception to this was one woman on reception whose name I did not catch - blonde, shoulder length hair, no glasses – who was just absolutely lovely and warm as well as highly competent! Thank you – I’m sure you and your manager know who you are! She checked us out on our departure on July 14. ||The only shortcomings to this room were: first, the couch and 2 chairs were not that comfortable; they were worn and one tended to slide a bit to the front when sitting on them. Second, the drapes were not blackout blinds. The sheers and thicker drapes, both together, allowed light in the room at 4 AM when the sun rose. That said, the hotel did supply both eyeshades and earplugs – while the latter were not necessary, the former were.||Tips: |1. the National Museum is highly recommended – especially the exhibit of impressionist paintings by Hannah Hirsch Pauli, best-appreciated with the audio guide provided with entrance fee, and the exhibit of paintings and sculptures by Ernst Billgren. We spent 3 hours and could easily have spent the entire day there. |2. a 2 hour e-bike tour of the city on your first day is recommended to get your bearings, and visit off the grid places that tourists usually don’t see, including one with killer views over the city. Can’t remember the name of the tour company but the guide was Thomas and the meet-up place was 12 minutes walk from the hotel in Gamla Stan. |3. the tram is a great way to get around, and very easy to use because it only has one line. You simply use your credit card to tap in when boarding the tram. No need to purchase ticket. We took the tram to Djurgarden, got off at the amusement park, and spontaneously caught a passenger ferry to other islands for a look-see. We disembarked when others did under a bridge, walked 2 minutes to d tram stop and took it back to the hotel. All easy peasy and a nice excursion. ||I was torn between this hotel and hotel Rival, and am so glad we chose this one. We highly recommend it and would without reservation...
Read morePost-pandemic times, I’ve had trouble sleeping in beds other than my own. This boutique hotel was the exception — best uninterrupted sleep I’ve had in years!
I love the French old world charm seen throughput the decor of Hotel Kungsträdgården, and incorporated in its classic Gustavian style. I enjoyed the filling breakfasts which are being served from 7am (great for “early birds” or when you want to make the most of your days by starting while most are still asleep 😴). Brasserie Makalös is right next to the hotel serving French cuisine, and music constantly plays in the lift, the bar and the brasserie. 🎶🙂
I feel that the location is perfect as it’s close to transportation links, the financial and shopping districts of the city, and walking distance from most tourist attractions. Even then, it’s tucked in a quiet alley, away from the hustle and bustle.
The hotel staff have all been lovely, warm and very helpful throughout my stay. My room was clean and tidy when I checked in and after returning from my day out. When I needed suggestions such as when I was looking for a certain Swedish niche brand that I couldn’t find in the brand’s website, the 24/7 concierge was more than willing to help.
My room was probably of Parisian size but every detail was so well thought-out that they all worked perfectly and the room didn’t feel cramped at all: the bed and its comfortable beddings and pillows, the shower and glass door, the built-in mini bar and closet, the placement of mirrors and desk, plus the decor theme in my favourite light shade of blue making the room cosy and minimalist. There were even thoughtful amenities like an umbrella for Stockholm’s rainy weather (thankfully the weather improved during my short stay) and a “sleep kit”. 🙂If I had to build a room in a limited space, I’d think back to the carefully laid out details of my room in this lovely boutique hotel for...
Read moreIf you're planning a trip to Stockholm and want a hotel that combines timeless elegance with modern comfort, Hotel Kungsträdgården is a must. Located in the heart of Stockholm, it's just a short walk from the Royal Palace and Gamla Stan. The hotel's perfect blend of history and contemporary design provided us with an unforgettable stay. Everything about this hotel exceeded our expectations, from the beautifully restored 18th-century building, which retains its original charm, to the warm and attentive service.
The location is fantastic, right next to the lovely Kungsträdgården Park and within walking distance of several top attractions. We also enjoyed the peace and quiet of the surrounding area, perfect for exploring Stockholm at our own pace. The hotel is accessible via public transport, with Kungsträdgården metro station just steps away.
One of the highlights of our stay was the breathtaking view from our room, which allowed us to watch stunning sunrises over Stockholm. Waking up early was a small price to pay for such a memorable experience. We also loved the glass elevator, which offered a unique view of the courtyard as we ascended—it was an unexpected touch of modern elegance in such a historic setting. The hotel's facilities were also impressive, with the Crystal Bar beneath the massive chandelier being a standout spot to relax. The open 24/7 gym was well-equipped, and we appreciated the option to unwind in the sauna after a day of exploring. Breakfast in the inner courtyard, with its historical charm and delicious offerings, was the perfect way to start the day.
While the rooms can be on the smaller side, the overall experience, exceptional service, and charming atmosphere make up for it. If you're looking for a unique and cozy place to stay in Stockholm, Hotel Kungsträdgården is a fantastic choice. We would...
