I think the concept is sublime. As a seafood and fish lover this is really my kind of place. The decor is funky and quirky and the whole atmosphere is something that you want to stay and linger in for a long time. I loved sitting at the bar and seeing the raw beauties staring you in the face as you dine and devour them.
We had oysters and Guinness, a match made in heaven. The Guinness was of a good quality and served at a nice cold temperature. The oysters speak for themselves and we're just bloody glorious.
We ordered the sole and monk fish. The sole came with a beurre blanc sauce and caviar whilst the monkfish with a light tomato sauce. The sole was really lovely, with the tender white flesh falling off the spine and the bones. The beurre blanc provided a slight fattiness to the dish, complimenting the sole and even carried some eloquence but unfortunately possessed too much sodium chloride.
We had to send back the monkfish which needed some extra cooking but this was reimbursed with some extra fries. The monkfish itself was meaty and had been delicately charred on the outside which provided a pleasant subtle smokey flavour. For me the tomato sauce was a bit bland and could have hit me with a bolder flavour punch.
With each fish dish comes salad and fries. I like the french concept and welcome fries and salad with open arms to accompany the beasts of the ocean. However, both of these were too salty (yes I have already mentioned too salty before) and lacked quantity; especially the salad! Give me more salad!
It does have to be said that the fries were perfectly crispy.
Nonetheless, too salty was a common theme across all the mains and the sides and I advocate for this be refined to provide a more pleasant sensory journey and of course to avoid masses of water being downed before exiting the restaurant and consequently several more trips to the water closet.
All in all, a great experience in a trendy and funky establishment, providing a bustling ambience and attentive service.
The beasts of the ocean are treated with care yet refinement is needed in parts and a bit of depth (no pun intended) needed in others. Whilst I understand and to some degree engulf the trendiness I do think the quantity needs to match the prices...
Read moreI stopped by in the middle of the workday a week ago, and although half of the tables were empty, I seated myself and waited for 15 minutes without being approached. When I asked a passing server, who had clearly seen me, where I could get the menu, he simply replied, “You see my hands are full.” No greetings, no friendly manner, just a blunt response. After that, I waited another 15 minutes before a different waiter finally came to take my order. He was more polite, likely because he could tell I was already displeased by the blatant rudeness of the previous waiter. Ironically, the meal was served faster than the whole ordeal of taking my order. My overall impression of this place? The service is practically non-existent - two waiters took half an hour to get to me, even though the place was half-empty and rather small. It’s not foreigner-friendly, and the portion size is ridiculously small for the price (you need to order fries /side dish separately so it’s 25$ for a tiny lobster roll alone). While the taste was ok, it’s just not worth it. I wouldn’t recommend it, as the experience left me feeling both frustrated...
Read more3.5- star in my view. Tasty but not value of money seafood in a way too crowded environment. The seafood soup was the highlight of the dinner. The fond tasted like homemade with the shell and heads of shrimps, lobsters and crayfish. The mini dices of celery added the texture of the whole dish and made a good contrast with the super soft fish meat. It was a bit too salty to my taste so it could be nice to have it with some bread. The lobster roll was filled up with not over cooked lobster meat, yet it was a bit too greasy because the bottom of the bun was totally soaked in grease. The monkfish was fresh and well preserved the original flavors of the fish, yet the whole dish was a bit too plain, it’s something can be cooked at home if you have the ingredients. The portions were not generous, you will need 2 dishes per person to get full. The tables were packed in the space, you could barely move around without bumping into other...
