Nestled in the heart of Stockholm lies Xulo, a haven for aficionados of authentic Mexican cuisine. Stepping into this culinary gem instantly transports one to the lively streets of Mexico City.
Upon entering, I was warmly greeted by Alejandro, a true embodiment of hospitality and expertise. His recommendations and attention to detail throughout the evening added an exceptional touch to an already delightful dining journey.
The menu at Xulo boasts an array of tantalizing options, but the star of the show undoubtedly was "El Flako" burrito. Bursting with flavors, this culinary masterpiece seamlessly combined tender, marinated meats, fresh vegetables, and the perfect blend of spices, all enveloped in a warm, freshly made tortilla. Each bite was a symphony of taste, a testament to the chef's dedication to authenticity and quality.
The service at Xulo was impeccable, thanks in large part to Alejandro's attentiveness. His knowledge of the menu, willingness to accommodate dietary preferences, and genuine passion for Mexican cuisine elevated the entire dining experience.
In addition to the standout dish, the variety and authenticity of other menu items deserve commendation. From sizzling totopos to flavorful quesabirrias, each dish presented a tantalizing glimpse into the diverse culinary landscape of Mexico.
The drink selection, featuring classic margaritas and an assortment of beers, further complemented the meal, adding a refreshing touch to the rich and savory flavors of the food.
However, it wasn't just the food that made the evening memorable; it was the seamless fusion of exceptional cuisine, welcoming ambiance, and outstanding service, particularly Alejandro's hospitality, that made Xulo an unforgettable dining destination.
In conclusion, Xulo is a must-visit for anyone seeking an authentic Mexican culinary adventure in Stockholm. From the delectable "El Flako" burrito to the impeccable service personified by Alejandro, every aspect of the experience exceeded expectations. Whether it's a casual meal or a special occasion, Xulo promises a gastronomic journey through the heart and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhile I appreciate that there is another authentic Mexican spot in town (Stockholm still needs a lot more international cuisine options), I was pretty disappointed with the experience here.
For starters, the place is still really small and cramped. We were requested to move tables three times throughout the meal (to help with the dining Jenga/tetris at dinnertime), after waiting for a table when arriving. This wasn't a huge deal, but the last table we were moved to was probably the worst one. Right in the middle of the small space, we were talked/shouted over by people (including staff) standing over us (having a loud conversation with our table directly in between), bumped into several times, and having to move over while large boxes and plants were moved in and out of the restaurant (seems like peak dinnertime is probably not the ideal time for deliveries/shipments).
Setting all of that aside, the food was just average in taste, and a bad value when considering the price (170kr for 3 small tacos, or 65kr for one). The barbacoa and bistec tacos were pretty good, but the papas (potatoes) one left a lot to be desired - didn't have much flavor.
The three salsa options were all good, and that was probably the saving grace of it all. Otherwise, not much to be excited about. I'll come back and give it another try sometime, but in general I will probably just stick with La Neta for tacos.
Lastly, they do not accept AMEX cards for payment....

Our first waiter had discussed with us a vegan option for the tostada prawn dish, and he even recommended it instead of simply ordering the original dish without prawns. So we opted for that. Then, when the dish comes out, we realize they've served us the prawn version.
We call over a waitress, and she says she will check. Then she comes back and says we got what we ordered and we must've chose the wrong thing, because there was no mistake on their side. This felt really rude, as she didn't even check with the original waiter (who made the mistake) before accusing us of ordering the wrong thing.
She then took away the dish that we had already started eating, and replaced it with the vegan option, which wasn't very good.
For the entire service, no one checked in on us or apologized for the mishap.
To top it off, they mixed up the bill at the end and got us to pay the wrong bill.
She could've let us have the original dish on the house, to compensate for the mishap, or offered an apology. But we didn't get any attempt from the staff to make things right.
It's a shame, the food was decent overall, but the place is really let down by careless service that made us feel really unwelcomed and...
