A leisurely Sunday evening stroll led here, so zero expectations. On a busy corner of the southern end of Gamla Stan, Agaton glows with warmth and comfort as you pass its windows. That perception is not dented on entering. A really nice welcoming and helpful front of house team, but with the minimum of invasion once seated and things ordered and delivered.
The menu is Italian, so all the usual suspects are there with a few local tweaks. After rapidly devouring some beautifully pungent ciabatta liberally doused in olive oil and garlic, we went straight for the carne. The lamb steak with fungi risotto and red wine reduction was frankly superb. Thank you - it was my birthday today and that is something I have loved cooking myself for years, but this old dog learned a few new tricks today. Again, thank you!
My parter had the reindeer flank with morel sauce and root vegetable cake. Again, one very happy diner. The meat was beautifully tender and morel sauce luscious.
Wine prices are a little prohibitive at 600kr a bottle and upwards, but then accepting this is Sweden, the capital city, and Stockholm's oldest part, that IS to be expected.
Would happily recommend this place - actually already did to a pair of ladies who arrived today from Oslo.
Fingers crossed your dining experience...
Read moreDear Agaton, I am writing to express my extreme displeasure with your restaurant. I had the misfortune of visiting your establishment recently and I must say that I was appalled by the complete lack of hospitality displayed by your host, as well as the unacceptable level of noise and overcrowding in the restaurant.
Your host was extremely impolite and unprofessional, displaying no warmth or courtesy towards me or my party. This behavior is completely unacceptable in the hospitality industry and I would expect better from a restaurant of your reputation.
Furthermore, the noise level in your restaurant was unbearable, making it impossible for me to have a conversation with my companions. Additionally, the number of people and tables crammed together made for an uncomfortable and claustrophobic dining experience.
It is unacceptable for a restaurant to treat its customers in such a manner. As a paying customer, I demand better service and a more pleasant dining experience. I urge you to take immediate steps to address these issues and ensure that they do not occur again in the future again.
My partner and I had planned this evening and we did spend a lot of our time to ensure that we could have this nice evening together but alas it could not have been more...
Read moreEntire experience 10/10 I cannot express this enough, if you are looking for a restaurant in Gamla Stan, go here.
I cannot say enough wonderful things about this place. We loved it so much that we not only began our trip at this restaurant, we also ended our trip here.
First and foremost, the food. The food was wonderful. We got pizzas, a calzone and the carpaccio. Delicious. We ended our meal with the chocolate truffles, sorbet and the amazing tiramisu. The tiramisu was INCREDIBLE. The flavor, the texture, everything-10/10.
But most importantly, the service is what made this such a great experience for us. Our first night the general manager Casper took care of our table. He was personable, kind and patient. He offered us suggestions for “must dos” on our trip and just made the evening so enjoyable.
Our second visit, we couldn’t have asked for a better experience with Johanna. She was such a delight. She was funny and helpful. She was on it despite having quite a few tables. She made us feel so welcome and we did not feel rushed whatsoever. The people here are the type you would invite to sit down at your table with you. They were so warm and wonderful.
The atmosphere was so cozy. I could go on and on.
Best meal experience
Definitely...
