I recently had the pleasure of dining at "The South Indian," and I must say, it was an exceptional experience that left a lasting impression. From the moment I walked in, the warm and inviting atmosphere made me feel right at home.
Ambience: The ambience at The South Indian is a perfect blend of traditional and modern elements. The decor features elegant wooden furnishings, intricate wall art depicting South Indian culture, and soft lighting that creates a cozy yet vibrant environment. The soothing background music, playing classical Indian tunes, adds to the overall serene and authentic dining experience. It's a great place for both family gatherings and intimate meals.
Service: The service at The South Indian was impeccable. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. They greeted us with genuine smiles and were quick to offer recommendations. Despite being a busy evening, our orders were taken promptly, and the food arrived in a timely manner. The waitstaff frequently checked in to ensure everything was to our satisfaction without being intrusive. Their professionalism and courteous nature significantly enhanced the dining experience.
Taste: Now, onto the star of the evening ā the Mysore Masala Dosa. It was nothing short of a culinary delight. The dosa was perfectly crisp on the outside, with a delightful golden-brown hue that was visually appealing. The inside was generously filled with a spicy and flavorful potato masala, which had just the right amount of heat and tanginess. The dosa was accompanied by a variety of chutneys and sambar. Each chutney had its unique taste, from the cooling coconut chutney to the tangy tomato , all of which complemented the dosa perfectly. The sambar was rich and aromatic, with a robust blend of spices that added an extra layer of depth to the meal. Every bite of the Mysore Masala Dosa was a testament to the authenticity and quality of the ingredients used.
Overall, my experience at The South Indian was fantastic. The combination of excellent service, delicious food, and a welcoming atmosphere makes it a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in authentic South Indian cuisine. I highly recommend trying their Mysore Masala Dosa ā itās a dish that truly captures the essence of South Indian flavors. I look forward to my next visit to explore more of their delightful...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe ordered food from this restaurant twice for home delivery, hoping for a better experience the second time, but unfortunately, it turned out to be disappointing both times. Hereās a breakdown of our experiences:
First Order: We ordered Mysore Masala Dosa and Lamb Sukka. While the dishes were pricey, we were hopeful about the quality. However, the sambar was downright ridiculousāfar from authentic and lacked any resemblance to South Indian flavors. We thought perhaps the authentic taste was compromised here in Sweden and decided to give it another try.
Second Order: The second time, we went with Paper Dosa, Fish 65, and Gulab Jamun. ⢠The Paper Dosa was overly oily but still eatable. ⢠The sambar and chutneys were a disaster. Unlike the first time, when the chutneys and sambar came in separate containers, this time, they were served in one container with half an inch of oil floating on top of the sambar. The coconut chutney was so salty it had to be thrown away, and one of the other chutneys had a strong smell of meat, which was highly off-putting and completely inappropriate. ⢠The Fish 65 had a good portion of salmon, but it lacked flavor, and the coating was poorly done. ⢠The Gulab Jamun was a joke. We paid 150 SEK for four pieces that bore no resemblance to actual Gulab Jamunāboth the texture and taste were disappointing.
Overall, the experience was pathetic, and it has left us reluctant to order anything online from this place again. The pricing is steep, and the quality, taste, and presentation are far below expectations. This was a thoroughly disappointing experience that we...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt was almost 20 days since we had eaten South Indian food as we were on a tour of South France and Belgium. The moment I saw the name " South Indian" in Stockholm among the Indian dining options, decided to make a dash for it. Been to one South Indian in Copenhagen, located in Fields Mall, in 2018, where the food quality was exceptionally good. Unfortunately, the fare dished out at this South Indian at Stockholm, not sure if the two are connected, turned out to be pretty ordinary and disappointing too. I am not for a moment complaining about the cost. One understands and accepts that at such speciality restaurants, things could be a bit pricey but that's perfectly ok as long as it is backed up with good quality food.
But what we got was re-heated idlis and vadas which were sort of rubbery when you tried to eat ,sambar which was extremely spicy and coconut chutney which did taste a tad stale. And the dosa was nothing great either.
Don't understand why they can't serve some genuinely South Indian tasty food? Cost is of no concern to the weary travellers these days. But, ensure the quality of the food that is served is authentic and tasty. Even if they don't serve a variety of items, suffice if they come out with a few signature items and leave the customers with a great experience.
Wish some enterprising Udupi entrepreneurs would think of setting up restaurants in Europe. Am quite confident they would do very well as long as they manage to serve some good , tasty and authentic South Indian vegetarian dishes. In fact, even the locals would...
