This is one of the top bakeries in Basel. Quality of bakery is really good. Prices are a bit higher than other bakeries but ok. There are two locations… the ‘bigger’ one (St. Johann) has more seating possibilities but still the queue for ordering is long (in the summer it goes around the corner) So I give the place 3 stars because even though quality is top, service is not the best but overall the whole concept of ordering/serving is a complete mess. The people who order for take away make the same queue as the ones ordering for consuming at the place. you can loose 40 min of time until it is your turn and if you forgot one thing or want to have one croissant more you need to re-do a 40min queue. on top of that , after paying such high prices you need to clean up the table yourself and that is not just putting the tray back but each thing back in boxes and trash too. For the prices you pay this is too much to ask. So, hope someone advices them to improve the bottleneck they have in their ordering/serving as due to that my cappuccino was also cold. Read moreVery uncomfortable situation in this pseudo fancy bakery. I went inside this bakery to buy 3 croissants. The price of each was 2 francs. I paid in cash with a 50 francs bill and received change 23 francs. I returned to claim the remaining change. The employee to not assume the mistake of being cheating customers, said he trusted me and gave me back a 20 francs bill. I didn’t mentioned that was still missing 1 franc to see where this episode would end. If I bought 3 croissants for the price of 2 francs and paid with a 50 francs bill the correct change would be 44 francs not 43. I didn’t complain again, I wanted to confirm the lack of professionalism. In the end, these kind of people still put the blame on our side. Read moreThe two star review may be misleading. The food and coffee at this Backerei / Bakery is top notch. But what would have been 5-stars was brought down to 2 due to the attitude of the staff. Today was my second day visiting Kult and the two ladies working here today were worse than the other two who were here yesterday. So this is not a personnel issue but a culture issue. Some warmth and a smile would be nice-to-have but not must-have so I will not judge them these. However they seem to go out of their way to be curt, rude and unhelpful. And God forbid if you ask them a question! The owner really should have a chat with his employees and ensure all customers are treated equally and made to feel welcome.
