I was dining with my wife there last night. It was a hot day and we requested to be moved outside as the temperatures would surely get nicer into the evening. They could accomodate us on our request. We received a nice amuse bouche: some bread and freshly sliced cured meat. As an appetizer: I had the beef tatar. It came with house-made pepper butter, sliced pickles, jalepeños, microgreen garnish and brioche toast on the side. It was really nice, it was a good size. I could definitely recommend it. My wife had a beef carpaccio. It came dressed(italian) with a small green salad on top. It was also nice.
As a main course, we both had the ribeye. I ordered mine medium rare and my wifes was medium. Mine was perfectly on point with the temperature but my wifes was simply well-done(temperature-not so great), she didn't want to make a fuss so I left it. On top of the ribeyes was a tomato salsa which was quite peppery but was a nice addition. It came with sweet potato french fries, probably the best I've ever had. They were seasoned perfectly, not too salty. The crunch was perfect and the inside was still recogniziably sweet potato. It came with a variety of vegetables which were lightly grilled.
Desserts were a "banana split" and ice coffee. The banana split was served with cold chocolate sauce. It was not traditional in any sense, there were only a couple slices of banana and it came with chocolate icecream. The ice coffee was also quite confusing as I couldn't really place the coffee and there was a lot of whipped cream and fruit(watermelon and pineapple) as a garnish. The service staff did a good job refilling our wine in the first half of the service but the second half was done mostly by ourselves.
Overall, I would recommend this restaurant but I would skip the desserts, or maybe just get something...
Read moreI have been to many restaurants in many different countries and have never experienced service this bad. We interacted with 3 staff members and they were all ridiculously rude. We waited forever to get served WATER and MENUS. There were people seated after us and they were immediately given water/menus. The hostess did not even show us to our table. She just pointed at it. The food was mediocre at best, certainly not worth the price. We have been to several other restaurants in Bern and the service was always stellar. Update- The manager of Hotel Bern also reached out to someone I dined with who had their complete own experience and asked us to REMOVE our reviews and consolidate it into one. Beware of...
Read moreOn vacation in Bern and ate here for dinner. Food, service, and atmosphere were very good. We started off with a mixed salad with house dressing which was ok - nothing special. The presentation was lovely and the salad ingredients were good but I didn't care for the dressing. I'm used to blue cheese or ranch and their house dressing was very different. For the main we had beef from Zurich with a mushroom cream sauce - it was very good. It also came with shredded, pan-fried potatoes and Bernese market vegetables which were both delicious. For dessert they served fruit, lemon Gelato, and lemoncello mascarpone cream which was very good. The mascarpone cream was...
