This brasserie style family run eatery has been an institution in the Lausanne "sous-gare", e.g. below the railway station, area for many years. It's now under new ownership since the beginning of 2024 and we returned for a late Tuesday dinner for the first time after this to test what had changed. Sure, the menu has several things in common with the previous one so you can still find inner organs like calf kidneys and liver along with various beef and veal dishes. Prices have gone up, for some dishes quite considerably. For instance, a rösti costs 27 CHF compared to 16 in the restaurant on la Tour de Gourze with its phenomenal views over the lake and alps. The wine list has expanded a lot and offers a wide choice of foreign and domestic products at rather high prices. I chose a local pinot noir by the glass to accompany my calf kidneys, and it was of rather mediocre quality. For vegetarians that do not eat fish the only option is rösti. Sea bream is the only fish alternative, a pity that there is no fish from Swiss lakes rather than a product that has to be transported from the Atlantic coast. Also, it was served too quickly to have been prepared from fresh, rather being reconditioned after having been prepared earlier in the day which is a culinary sin in my opinion. On the positive side was our fun waitress and photographer to become, that we had met already the evening before when shooting the super-moon. Read moreI booked Les Trois Rois for a private event, and our expectations were exceeded by far. Everything was perfect, from booking, table setup, service, food, drinks and handling of dietary restrictions. Our group agreed it could not have been any better.
