Terrible experience today … again. This time we had booked a table well in advance. Arriving on time there were a queue of 10 persons, who also booked a table, without staff to welcome them. Having waiting unsuccessfully we canceled the reservation and went across the street to the Green Gorilla where staff is welcoming and food great !

One star for today reception staff around 12:30. As I got there with my 2 kids and asked for a table for 4, the lady told me that we had to wait my wife to be there to be seated. Even though were ready to order immediately, knowing well the restaurant and my wife being only a block away. As a client I consider this as unacceptable. We left and went to the Café des Artisans, where the waitress welcomed us kindly on a busy terrace and put the 2 tables left together for us. This a client dedication. To finish on a positive note and to be fair, I must write that Blackbird food has always been great (4-5 stars for this kind of restaurant). Green Man burger is our favorite. We will grab it as take...
Read moreThe menu looks great on paper and everything seems very tempting. Service was generally fine — they took our order quite late but the staff was pleasant and friendly.
We ordered the French toast (good but far too sweet), the breakfast burrito and the Bondi with scrambled eggs and bacon as add-ons. The main issue was the temperature and the preparation of the dishes: too many elements seemed pre-prepared and were served cold or even straight-out-of-the-fridge cold, like the granola and the coleslaw. My scrambled eggs and bacon also arrived cold. When I asked for hot bacon, they simply reheated the same bacon that was already on my plate, which is not acceptable.
Another surprising point: it is not possible to order a simple fried egg. That makes me question whether there are actual cooks in the kitchen or if it’s mostly assembly work from pre-made mixtures — which is not reassuring nor appetising.
It’s a pity, because the place itself is beautiful and welcoming. The concept has potential, but the execution...
Read moreI can’t lie, I’m a massive brunch fan. It’s the best meal of the day, week month. Every time. Moving back to Switzerland from the USofA I was initially distraught by the meagre brunch offerings around Lausanne. Then, one day, I stumbled upon the Blackbird Diner and the rest was history. I’ve eaten here dozens of times and tried most things on the menu and it’s just a great spot. I’ve dragged mothers, fathers, friends, boyfriends, strangers here - and all have loved it. In winter you can enjoy the cosy interior and in the spring and summer, the terrace is a lovely place to soak up the sun.
Favourites include but are not limited to: the veggie breakfast burrito, the chipotle avocado chicken sandwich, the bondi, the Nordic, the lovely pancakes and oh my gosh, the lattes and cappuccinos.
I will say, it can get a little crowded, but hey, this city only has like 3 brunch spots so what can ya do.
Ps: I Would give this 4.5 starts but google...
