Lausangeles - Spécialité afghane & Iranienne — Restaurant in Lausanne

This was my first foray into Afghan cuisine and my friend from Lausanne ordered a take away back home for our lunch.

We had Mast-o-Khial which is Yogurt with Cucumbers and Dry Mint and Meat Dumplings called Mantu for appetisers. And for mains, we each had L’Afghan which consists of Cumin Rice, Carrots, Grapes, Rose Water accompanied by Beef Meatballs marinated in Tomato and Broken Peas Sauce.

The Mast-o-Khial was a refreshing start to the meal and that hint of mint made all the difference. The dough of the Mantu was a little too thick for my liking but other than that, it went really well with the mint yogurt sauce that came with the dish. L’Afghan was truly a bowl of (unlikely) goodness as I have never been a fan of rose water and peas of any kind so I must admit that when I first saw it, I was hesitant but I trusted my friend’s taste immensely and she was right! Everything in this bowl, mixed together went so well and I barely tasted the peas (which was good for me) and instead the sweetness of the grapes and carrots came through and it went so well with the fluffy rice and meatballs. Very friendly staff and a very good food. I visit many restaurants and worked in the industry more towards high-end restaurants, so the moment I walk in a restaurant I know what they made off. These guys category were not high-end restaurants and they made the design look posh and very simple, but their service was super high end.

They help me with explaining the menus, offered me snacks and drinks to start with before I decided, drink came quick and food was flavourful. I was dining upstairs and no staff were close to me or nearby and I drop my knife on purpose just to test the reaction, 20 second later the staff came up and offer me a new set because they heard it in the kitchen in the basement, that is the level of attention to detail. Staff were pretty much available but in your face.

Food also were flavourful and well seasoned so I didn’t need to add anything.

Persia e Afghanistan nel Piatto (e nel Cuore): Un Ristorante da Provare!

Avete presente quei posti dove entri e ti senti subito protagonista di una favola delle Mille e una Notte? Ecco, questo ristorante persiano-afghano è proprio così! L’ambiente è elegante senza essere pretenzioso, con un’atmosfera rilassata che ti fa subito dimenticare la giornata di lavoro.

Personale da Oscar (e con il Radar Integrato!)

Il vero spettacolo però lo fa il personale: gentilezza a livelli olimpionici! Ti accolgono con un sorriso che nemmeno il sole di Kabul, ti spiegano ogni piatto come se stessi scegliendo il menù per una festa di nozze, e ti portano subito qualcosa da sgranocchiare mentre decidi. E attenzione: la velocità con cui arrivano le bevande sfida le leggi della fisica!

Ma il meglio arriva quando, per puro spirito scientifico, faccio cadere il coltello per vedere se qualcuno se ne accorge. Tempo di pensare “ops!” e, dal nulla, compare un cameriere con un set di posate nuovo di zecca. Giuro che avranno delle antenne o un sonar in cucina!

E il cibo? Una festa di sapori! Spezie dosate alla perfezione, piatti profumati e colorati che ti fanno dimenticare qualsiasi dieta. Qui non serve chiedere sale, pepe o salse strane: ogni boccone è già un viaggio.

Coccole dall’Entrata all’Uscita

Appena entri ti senti subito il benvenuto, e quando te ne vai ti salutano come se fossi un vecchio amico in partenza per un lungo viaggio. Insomma, qui il cliente è davvero al centro, e si vede!
