: After my original review, Luzern Tourism kindly followed up with the restaurant on my behalf. Unfortunately, the response I received was extremely disappointing. Rather than acknowledging the situation or showing any willingness to engage, the restaurant flatly denied everything and even accused me of making threats and blackmail — which is completely false and upsetting.
Given the seriousness of what happened, Fabian from the city’s anti-discrimination office has also become involved and conducted an interview with me. This shows I am not alone in experiencing or raising concerns about this place.
What makes this worse is that many other visitors have described similar discriminatory experiences here in their reviews. It’s sad that instead of taking this as an opportunity to reflect and improve, the restaurant chose denial and hostility.
I genuinely hope Luzern continues to monitor this establishment, because experiences like this damage the city’s otherwise warm and welcoming reputation.
We had a very disappointing experience here. After sitting for more than 20 minutes, no one even asked if we wanted drinks while we looked at the menu. When our waitress finally came over, I made a light comment about being ready since we’d been waiting so long — she immediately turned rude, bluntly saying “we have no Riesling” and shoving the wine list at me without any recommendations or explanation.
At the same time, the manager made a very dismissive gesture toward my dad to push in his chair so he could pass by, even though there was enough space to walk behind. No words, just a rude wave of the hand. It felt disrespectful and unnecessary.
Throughout dinner, no one checked on us once to ask if we enjoyed our food or drinks. Meanwhile, I noticed a very different level of service at other tables. It’s hard not to feel that we were treated differently because we are Asian (me, my mom, and dad) — or perhaps because I was wearing a vest. If the restaurant has expectations for dress or doesn’t welcome certain guests, they should be upfront, rather than letting us sit down and then treating us poorly.
Unfortunately, the food did not redeem the experience. Compared to other places we dined nearby, it was underwhelming. Overall, I cannot recommend this restaurant unless you want to risk being...
Read moreCame here to try the famous Swiss fondue - I knew it would be more pricey being in Switzerland but I didn’t expect them to be so strict about ordering more food. The waitress was extremely rude right off the get go for absolutely no reason. I asked her one question about what the fondue comes with and she sternly stated “bread and potatoes of course” as if I was an idiot and then right as I was going to ask her about the soup of the day she walked off. She walked around and ignored me for a good ten minutes before returning and seeming annoyed again for no reason. Anyhow we ordered the fondue and one glass of wine for my girlfriend and nothing else. She then stated that I must order some food for myself. So I decided to order a Swiss cream soup as well. She came back with the food and wine a bit later then said I must order a drink as well, I said I don’t want a drink and I just wanted some tap water and she said fine and brought me a glass of tap water. We ate the food and the fondue itself was good/decent with the bread but nothing to blow my mind with. The soup was unremarkable and the potatoes with fondue were also not the best. Now the crazy thing is that when she brought the bill she had charged me 5.50 franks for one glass of plain tap water. And when I asked her about it she said since I didn’t order a drink she charged me for the tap water that came out of a friggen faucet that’s when I realized this place was a scam and protested the charge. She didn’t take it off and I ended up just paying almost 6 franks for one small glass of faucet water on top of the rest of the bill. The location is nice. The food is not that good/ok. The prices are diabolical and unethical for the taste of the food/bad service. The location is beautiful if you can sit near the river. I would never come back though just out of a matter of principal. I was fine paying the original hefty price for the food, wine, and experience before they decided to screw me for the...
Read moreAppetisers arrived timely. But everything pretty much went downhill from there. We waited over 30 mins for our fondue and mains. After waiting, we asked them to check with the kitchen as we noticed that other tables have started receiving their fondues and mains despite arriving significantly later than us. When the food finally arrived, we informed a male server that we waited close to 45mins and he blamed it on the Cordon Bleu having to take 20 mins to cook. We knew that when we ordered but we found it ridiculous that our fondue took the same amount of time to arrive. We pointed that out, rather than being apologetic, he got defensive and blamed it on a fully booked restaurant. When we arrived and ordered, there were still a fair amount of empty tables. It also doesn’t explain how some tables despite arriving so much later than us, got their food way earlier than us though.
Might be a race thing. Noticed 2 of the servers glancing our way and laughing and whispering to each other. We were the only table on that section. If you’re not white as in Caucasian or have any in your group, you might want to skip this restaurant. They definitely treated the Caucasians around us with more energy, warmth and friendliness.
DO NOT recommend this place at all if you’re in Lucern. Food was mediocre and very salty and overcooked. I had hoped that despite the horrible service and possible racism, that the food might save the day. But alas, that was not the case. Save your money and head elsewhere, unless you enjoy racist treatments, mediocre food and...
