Ristorante Barbatti — Restaurant in Lucerne

We found this restaurant because it was recommended by our Hotel des Balances and Google reviews. We ordered a pasta and Rib eye steak. The rib eye steak was inedible, too hard to cut, too chew, and lacking flavor. The pasta was al dente, had nice mushroom flavor. The other issue was that a customer next to our table was a chain smoker throughout our meal. If you want outdoor seating, you should sit at the table further away from the Lake because the wind direction at night blows toward the lake, just in case a heavy smoker happens to be your neighbor. What made up for the evening was the staff sincerity and genuine desire to make every customer experience to be positive and happy. My server was Emmanuele and his direct supervisor, (I didn‘t get his name) were beyond the scope of their duty. Do not come here if you’re a tourist and are Asian! I wish I read the reviews here more closely before coming here. Initially I thought we were treated poorly because we were tourists, but if you look at the reviews here, the bad reviews come from Asian tourists and are very true.

The owners here in the responses keep trying to claim miscommunication, but it’s not true - we understood them very well. At the end of our meal, our sever was pushy and clearly stated that our total bill does not include “service charge” in it. I repeat he said “service charge” and not gratuity/tip.

He also inputted his own gratuity charge, and when we questioned it he lowered it while repeating service charge was not included. This left us extremely confused, as all restaurant bills in Switzerland include service charge by law. His pushiness led us to sign the bill before processing what happened and leaving the restaurant extremely confused.

We’re extremely unhappy and will never come back here again. I cannot believe they tried to take tourists as fools, and quite frankly this is a dishonest business. Stay...

Great beef dishes and risotto (I was actually pretty satisfied after a string of disappointment after having the bar set high by Venice cuttlefish risotto), overall the prices seem a bit steep for what you get especially with the portion sizes of the primi dishes, though not too far past what you would expect in general for Switzerland. 4 star mainly for the end which felt like I was being nudged toward leaving an additional tip even though VAT was included already and we had fairly standard service, not exceptional.
