Beautiful quaint and welcoming hotel with the finest staff you’ll ever encounter. We are checking out in the morning and will be sad to leave.
-Reception is well-run, always courteous, helpful, friendly. bar & lounge area are warm and welcoming. Bartender is young but very experienced and pours perfectly. Not to mention she is super nice and knowledgeable about the area.
I don’t even eat breakfast but have gotten up early every morning to go down and be treated to the finest breakfast I’ve ever had and it’s free! Large variety of breads (holy moly eat the best croissants you’ll ever have), custom teas, coffees, yogurt bar and on and on. The server remembered us every single morning and brought my latte and my husband’s cappuccino without even having to ask, she’s an absolute gem.
-Don’t miss The Rex cookie in the bakery, it will change how you view cookies forever, it is that good. We’ve had plenty from the bakery and loved it all.
-housekeeping staff are angels who go above and beyond. I left one morning with dirty dishes n the sink and my room in total disarray that I was planning to take care of when I got back. I thought housekeeping was already finished with my floor, I never EVER would’ve been such a jerk to leave such a mess. Somehow they knew I left and went in and spotlessly cleaned the room, washed the dishes and everything. I still feel awful about that so if our angel of a housekeeper sees this pls know I left an apology note and a tip at Reception for you.
-spa was quite a treat after a long day in the cold. Super clean and well-stocked. 2 saunas, huge whirlpool hot tub, large indoor pool, plenty of lounging areas, showers all pristine clean and in great working order.
front “porch” has ample faux fur covered seating, very warm & cozy. Front “yard” has Adirondack chairs and usually a warm fire going for evening relaxation. Views from the front and back of hotel are spectacular.
-walls are thick! We slept in complete silence, it was like no one else was n the hotel. Never once heard voices or tv noises, nothing. Bedding is plush and fluffy, you’ll need it because it’s warm and stuffy at night (have discovered the Swiss apparently like it much warmer indoors than this American) so open the window before u go to sleep and get the room chilly. You’ll sleep so well that way. The room is heated by radiator and we turned them completely off the first day but it just does not cool off unless you open a window.
Without a doubt we’ll be staying here from now on when in the area. Great location that is close to everything but not so close that you have to deal with all the crowds. The Rex is such a warm, homey and welcoming place, they’ve done a...
Read moreWas beyond excited about my first visit to Zermatt. A tour company booked my group into the Rex for 6 nights. ||My traveling companions were given a queen room which was spacious with lovely amenities appropriate in a 4 star hotel. I was booked into a single room, 38, which was like a dorm room, spare at best, with no amenities. Upon opening the door to the bathroom, a strong odor of sewage overwhelmed me. ||I reported this to the front desk and they responded as if this was not a new problem and they would address it. I requested another room and was willing to pay to be upgraded. Unfortunately, due to the length of my stay, to give me another room would have required 3 room changes and no upgrades were available. Despite numerous attempts to improve the situation the odor did not improve. The last attempt was the placement of a huge bottle of air freshener in the bathroom. ||After 2 nights, they were able to change my room to the same accommodation on the floor below, 28. Logically, this would not be better as my assumption is that sewage moves with gravity. I agreed to the change and for the first 2 nights, there wasn't an odor.||The next day, the sewage smell became apparent and I reported this to the front desk. They were fully booked and unable to offer me another room. They did offer to waive the reservation cancellation fee if I chose to check out early and find another hotel. This was not a viable option as I was with a group who were happy with their accommodation. ||In the 2 single rooms I stayed in, in addition to the smell of sewage, I could hear people going up and down the stairs, the sound of water running, the person in the room above me and the sound of bottles being dumped in the trash. When I initially reported the odor to the front desk manager, I told him I felt like Cinderella in the single room compared to the room my traveling companions had. ||No offer of compensation was offered until I contacted our tour operator who negotiated a complimentary dinner for my party of 3 at their restaurant, Stockhorn. I do not feel a dinner properly compensates for 6 nights of dorm room accommodations including the smell of sewage. ||I have never had a problem like this in my travels and feel this should qualify as a health code violation. ||On the up side, their bakery made delicious bread and if they could have piped that smell into the bathroom, my stay may have been more pleasant. ||I WOULD STRONGLY CAUTION ANYONE FROM BOOKING A STANDARD SINGLE ROOM. If you choose to stay at the Rex, upgrade. As mentioned above the queen...
Read moreI can not boast enough about this facility. Beautiful, quaint, cozy, and everything you’d expect from a mountain lodge. That’s not the best part. The best part is the staff and service. Our stay was April 9th-13th 2025 and we were blown away by the service. Our first introduction to their service was a courtesy call when we were later than expected for check in. Train delays had us arriving in Zermatt late and the hotel called to make sure we were okay and everything was fine. We walked to the hotel to take in the village even though they offered a complimentary shuttle pickup. Immediately greeted by Florian who was a lifesaver for us the next day. I had a bad crash and unknowingly broke a vertebrae on April 10th. When returning from the mountain I nodded off and my wife did also waking at 18:46 and the pharmacy was scheduled to close at 19:00. My wife went downstairs and Florian called the pharmacy and requested a late closing for my wife to acquire some medications for my pain. What a lifesaver and amazing kindness from him. Ari another conscience was so pleasant every time we saw her at the front desk. And the management Lucas was absolutely involved and catering to keeping us entertained and even listening to my rambling as I told him stories. He even took his shot at whipping up a cocktail he wasn’t used to making for us while the bartender hadn’t arrived yet and that’s above and beyond in hospitality management. The Coctail came out perfect by the way. Then the facility and breakfast. Sofia took care of us every morning 4 mornings in a row and remembers our precise beverages from the first day asking if we would care for the same. She remembered everything about us and it felt so inviting. The pleasantries and personal touch the staff put into our stay made our honeymoon portion of Zermatt beyond memorable it was an epic experience. I would recommend this facility to every single person who visits Zermatt. And I didn’t even mention the balcony view waking up to the sun sliding down the eastern face of Matterhorn as my morning view. Epic doesn’t even begin to qualify as enough of a description for every aspect of our stay at the Rex. But it will have to do. Trust me when I say it would be hard to find a better place to stay...
