Rating Albanesi is a difficult matter as the cookies are wonderful but the staff is by far the worst in Zurich.
Not only is the staff rude, not attentive, confused by humans interactions, and not understanding any language at all (the claim by the manager that staff is bilingual is ridiculous at best); employees do not pay any attention to customers, never advise on products, and always chat with each other.
The price of cookies has also been raised substantially recently - employees will deny it before admitting it, and it is an exploit to obtain a cookie box of the right size (they only want to give you a plate for 10 items and will fight you on a larger box).
A particular issue is provided by the reading of reviews: Management is taking zero accountability for the repeated criticisms and refers to in-detail recording and videos of customer interactions (allegedly a word-to-word transcript of all conversations in the shop) to deny all claims and put the blame on customers. It is questionable whether such practices are legal.
Overall: Go for the cookies but be ready for an unpleasant fight. It is unclear whether Zurich will long have the patience...
Read moreMy recent experience at Albanesi Italy in Zurich was unfortunately marred by an incident involving a lost earring. While dining with my mother, she misplaced a sentimental earring. Upon returning to the establishment to inquire, we were told that a staff member had seen it, but it was taken by another colleague and later misplaced or discarded.
This situation has left us disappointed, especially considering the typical Swiss practice of establishments keeping lost items for their customers. The lost earring had significant sentimental value, being a gift from my mother's sister.
We understand that accidents happen, but we expected a higher level of responsibility for customers' belongings, particularly in a reputable establishment. We are leaving tomorrow and would greatly appreciate it if there could be a swift investigation into the matter and any efforts to recover the lost earring before 15h. We hope this comment draws attention to the incident and encourages measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
Thank you for your...
Read moreI was instantly drawn in to this lovely-looking Italian bakery café. Because it was so full, I decided to take out.
Even though there was nobody in front of the glass counter but me & a couple of kids, it was v e r y difficult, to the the staff's attention. When finally someone did get to me, she wasn't able to understand, let alone speak, German, only mumbled some broken words in English & referred me to her collegue, who didn't have much better command of any other language but Italian. I pointed at four pieces of cake, naming each of them with their proper Italian name. For a split second, I didn't pay attention. I paid, left a generous tipp even though the service wasn't that great (BTW: the golden money bank piggy belongs to the owner!!).
When I unwrapped the cakes later, three of the four I pointed at and named properly, were cakes I didn't want. Three quarter of the purchase was wrong!!! No idea, how that could have happened in the split second, I wasn't watching.
Quality-wise, the cakes were okay, but not exciting. I...
