Restaurant Schützengasse — Restaurant in Zurich

I would have given 3.5 stars, but rounded its 4.

Let’s start with the good. Service was very attentive, quick, organised. Definitely a 5 stars from that perspective.

On the otherhand:

Setting: Very dark inner space, couldn’t really see my plate. Also rather noisy setting - it doesn’t have to be calm but it has more of a pub sound level then a restaurant one. Then again, it was sold out crowded so have to give the benefit of the doubt here.

Now the food. Food presentation was good, but the tartars were rather tasteless. It was just plain although the meat or fish part should be the one that splashes out.

For the main - cordon blue. Disappointing in two ways. Both the schnitzel and cordon blue are not offered with potato salads to the side- only fries. For me, potato salad has to be the main offering, with fries as the option.

Secondly, ketchup and mayo were served before, with preisselbeeren only offered when asked for. Also here - if you want to make the dish stand out, preisselbeeren is the base with a side offering of ketchup mayo. It’s the small details.

Dessert - not much to complain about, was very nice :)

for English see below Ich bin 67, hatte heute ein dringendes Bedürfnis, kam in dem Lokal rein und wollte etwas trinken, weil ich eben auf's WC müsste. Nun da kam eine junge Dame mit blondem Haar und ich fragte sie, ob ich nur etwas Trinken dürfte, dann sagte sie: Est tut mir leid, nur Mittagessen, dann habe ich sie gesagt: eigentlich hätte ich noch ein anderes Bedürfnis, ob ich die Anlage benützen dürfte, dann sagte sie wieder, es tut mir leid, aber laufen sie doch zum Bahnhof (also noch ca. 200 m). Sorry aber wenn's mal druckt..., . Dann bin ich gegangen und fand noch der Insider Restaurant an der Löwenstrasse 64, ging rein und direkt zum WC, nachher habe ich etwas zum Trinken bestellt, obwohl ich nicht unbedingt durst hatte, aber fand es Fair und herrlich. Was auch immer ich wünsche, dass die Dame so alt wird, wie ich und hoffe, dass sie, dann nie in so eine Situation kommt. Was mich anbelangt, ich glaube nicht, dass ich je einmal im Restaurant Schützengasse um zu essen gehen werde; schade für den Koch und das Team.

I'm 67, had an urgent need today, came into the bar and wanted something to drink because I had to go to the toilet. Well, a young lady with blonde hair came and I asked her if I could just have something to drink, then she said: I'm sorry, just lunch, then I said to her: actually, I had another need, would I like that? was allowed to use the facility, then she said again, I'm sorry, but just walk to the train station (about 200 m). Sorry but if it ever prints..., . Then I left and found the Insider Restaurant at Löwenstrasse 64, went in, and went straight to the toilet. Afterwards I ordered something to drink, even though I wasn't necessarily thirsty, but I thought it was fair and wonderful. Whatever I wish that the lady grows up to be as old as me and hope that she will never find herself in such a situation. As for me, I don't think I'll ever go to the Schützengasse restaurant to eat, a shame for the chef...

I give this place a 10 out of 10 and cannot recommend it enough! My partner and I visited Zurich for the first time and ended up having dinner at Schutzengasse twice. The service was impeccable - our waiter Bruno and the team were very professional and friendly at the same time. They clearly care about their customers and providing an amazing dining experience.

When it came to ordering, we asked for both food and drink recommendations and were impressed with everything we tried. The quality of the dishes and drinks was exceptional.

I would definitely recommend Schutzengasse to anyone, and plan to tell my friends and family about this...
