Dachterrasse HILTL:Didn’t meet the Expectations set by Family and Friends
I had high hopes for Dachterrasse HILTL, a vegetarian restaurant in Zurich that was recommended to me by my family and friends. They told me that it was the best place to enjoy authentic Indian cuisine in the city. However, I was very dissatisfied with my visit and I felt that the restaurant did not live up to its reputation. The first thing that bothered me was the service. The staff was not very attentive. They did not explain the menu or the concept of the restaurant, and they did not check on us during our meal. The second thing that disappointed me was the food. The restaurant claims to offer authentic Indian cuisine, but I found it to be far from the real thing. The dishes lacked the flavor and spice that I expected from Indian food. They were bland and overcooked. The only good thing was that they had a lot of variety and you could choose anything to eat as everything was sold by weight. They also offered free bread, papad, and water. But this did not make up for the poor taste of the food. The third thing that annoyed me was the price. The restaurant was very expensive for the quality and quantity of food they provided. We paid almost 40 CHF per person for a mediocre meal that left me unsatisfied and unhappy. I felt that we wasted our money and our time at this place. I would not recommend this place to anyone who is looking for authentic Indian food in Zurich. It is overhyped and not worth the money. There are much better options in the city for vegetarian food that are cheaper and tastier. Dachterrasse HILTL is a disappointing experience that I would not...
Read moreVery classy operation. I love a taste of this and a taste of that. I enjoyed it so much yesterday, that I came back today, and there were enough new choices to delight my palate. Dishes, stemware and cutlery are excellent quality, and a large selection of sauces, dressings, nuts and seeds allow you to customize your meal as you wish. I especially loved the seitan stroganoff with mushrooms, the roast carrots and the paneer dish. Exceptional choice of drinks including a lovely bio red wine, and signature cocktails. Reasonably priced by Swiss standards, (especially since many of the ingredients are bio or organic) a lightly filled plate could be CHF 20, a stacked plate 45. Soup, dessert and drinks separate. Great dessert options including a plethora of house made ice creams and berry sorbets. Friendly staff. Clean toilets. Sustainable options. Cute signage. Credit cards accepted. Lovely patios off each side- like a vegetarian oasis in the center of town. Two things I would improve on:
My family and I walked 20 minutes, excited to go to this restaurant and reached at around 9:15-9:20, 40-45 mins before the restaurant was scheduled to close. The waitress SAIDA was extremely rude and discriminative to my parents and rudely stated that we cannot eat at the restaurant because the restaurant closes at 10, the kitchen closes at 9, and the buffet closes at 9:30. We completely understand if the restaurant and the kitchen closed at a certain time since my family is in the same line of business, however it is not acceptable how she treated and denied service to my parents while there were people that came after us and were granted service. We talked to the kitchen and they told us that we could serve ourselves from the buffet but warned us that the buffet closes at 9:30, so we quickly served ourselves and were seated by 9:28 after paying for our food as well. We finished eating at 9:53, and we were not the last customers leaving the restaurant. SAIDA agreed that she was rude to my parents because they asked if the a lá carte was open after she said that it was closed, and she said that she was quite angry with my mom for asking the question again. I hope the manager takes an action and guarantees better service to the rest of...
