Absolutely amazing place! It's a little English/Irish themed pub that doubles as both a bar, & then as a club later in the evenings on weekends. I'm an American guy & I was an aupair here in the Zurich area for a while. I spent many a night here with groups of friends when I lived in the Zurich area. If you are looking for a place that's a good mix of both locals, aupairs, exchange students, english/irish folks, and generally a melting pot of lots of nationalities, with a great mix of music, with the typical high Swiss prices, look no further! It's free, but it does get packed! No particular type of dress style rejected, unless that's changed since I was there in 2002. There's very much a "everyone's welcome" type of attitude here & you will find all ages. They play all the latest hits & move successfully across many music genre's. One favorite I was surprised to hear in the beginning, when I first started going there, was a techno version of "Country Road, Take Me Home". Just blew my mind, but the locals ate it up! Don't even remember how many times I visited this place, but it was basically the de-facto stop whenever we were in Zurich on Friday & Sautrday nite! It's a short walk straight down from the Hauptbahnhof, down Bahnhofstrasse & then left on Beatengasse. Plan to stop in around 10pm if you are going on a Friday or Saturday night, when the chairs are removed & it turns clubbish. Otherwise, it's your typical Irish pub of an evening, with folks crowding in on Tuesdays for the football (soccer) matches! Absolute...
Read moreI came to Switzerland from Kenya to study, and last weekend, I went out with some friends to a club called Nelson. We waited in line for a long time, but then a security guard, who was a bit short and overweight, came up and singled me and my Indian friend out. Without any explanation, he told us to leave the line. It felt really unfair because there were so many white people around, but we were the only ones targeted.
When we tried to talk to him and ask why we were being treated differently, he just acted rude, saying, ‘I’m the boss here, and I only let in people I like.’ His attitude was disgusting, and it was clear he didn’t care about fairness or respect.
It was a shocking experience to see such blatant racism in a place where we should have been able to just have fun and enjoy the night. It made me realize how prevalent discrimination can be, even in social settings like this. It’s not just about being excluded from a club; it’s about the way people of color are often made to feel unwelcome or less valued in certain spaces.
Racism in places like restaurants, clubs, and bars can often be subtle, but when you experience it directly, it really hits hard. It’s a reminder of how much work still needs to be done to fight these biases and create inclusive spaces for everyone, regardless of their background.
It seems that a lot of people had the same problem with the security guard. I do not know why the Restaurant is not changing the security. We must take video and show it...
Read moreIf i could give it a negative star I would. Racist place! If u are black or a person of color I would not recommend you go there; in any event they may not allow you through their hallowed doors. I went there with my friend (both of us black), went there on Saturday 23rd of November, after it was recommended to have a Dj who plays decent music. When we arrived, a group of white men, 6 of them, no females in the group, was just arriving ahead of us. They were given cursory checks at the door, no questions were asked of them, and were promptly let in. We followed them to the door where on seeing we were 2 black dudes we were told we cannot enter. So we inquired as to why, and the bouncers let it known that they don't allow in men unaccompanied by women. So we pointed out that they had just let in 6 unaccompanied white men not even 10 seconds before us. That's when they told us they have the right to deny admission for whatever reason they saw fit. So, me and my friend left. But it was very clear, in our eyes that the only difference between me and my friend, and the white men they were letting in was the color of our skin. Imagine being excited to go to a place on a cold winter night and you get reminded the color of your skin makes you less than enough to enter. Would not recommend to anyone other than to...
